I know this has been covered before, so apologies in advance, but I can't find the thread. When booking with America West, should I be doing so through via FC services to make sure I get the airmiles, or can I do so by booking with AW direct?

Either way is fine - you can also give them your FC number at check in.

One thing to be aware of though, is that HP have issues with taking bookings on their own site from certain UK cards. You might find yourself having to buy them through FC (who are not normally any more expensive) or Travelocity/Expedia, etc. in order to be able to actually purchase a ticket!

Also for some darn reason I have NEVER been able to get mile's credited straight away,always end up sending in paperwork.

Seems like plan A is better, I think....why do you say that I might have to buy through FC or Travelocity/Expedia to buy a ticket though - surely I can do so online?

Ah, sorry - HP = America West.

I know my Mastercard wouldn't work, and neither would a friend's Visa. It'll let you get 95% there, but then claim to "decline". They have problems authorising a UK billing address it seems.

Ironically, you can get around it buy purchasing the very same ticket on Travelocity or Expedia.

Thanks - I was racking my brains to come up with what HP was! Forewarned is forearmed then - and no doubt it'll decline my mastercard as well..... I hadn't previously thought about doing it via the other options...............

I have had problems booking America West flights from the UK with my Virgin Mastercard. The last time I tried, I changed my address to my US hotel address and bingo I got the booking. On check-in for the flight I handed my FC card and obtained a receipt. The flight was credited within a couple of weeks.

So it seems any address will do, as long as it's in the US - or Canada too perhaps? That's easily remedied....

It's all e-tickets then? They don't physically send you anything at any time?

When I last booked with HP, I just rang the Flying Club and sorted it through them.

Not only was the fare cheaper than was quoted on the Am West website, but my points posted very quickly after the flights. [y][y]

Guess you could book the VS codeshare if it still around. The VS website still talks about HP(US) codeshares but can find expamles for ya. I have only seen one VF travel on the HP codeshare. Maybe an option.

I had problems booking on HP's website, as it didn't understand why I didn't have a zip code.... Much easier to phone FC and get them to sort it, as long as you have 20 mins to spare while they put you on hold!
