Strange one I know.

I am off to see my Brother in Boston at the weekend. Being a Brit he loves his curries so I would like to take a couple of jars of Llyodd Grossmans Rogan Josh sauces to cook him and his family a curry while I am there as a sort of thank you.

I know that you are not allowed to take fresh fruit, vegtables or fresh dairy prodcuts into the USA, but would I be allowed to take this sauce. The sauce does contain vegtables (Mainly Tomatoes) and spices,(though no meat) but these are fully cooked and sealed in the jar.

Your help would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure the sauce you described is fine, though double check the ingredients with the quote above.

I always take Branston Pickle for a mate, and the first time got hauled over as I'd declared 'Pickles' on the customs form... they were fine once they'd checked it out.

If I were you though I'd certainly mention it on the customs form, as even if it IS allowed they get pretty arsey if you forget to put it down under Food and they then find it.

My friend Charlie always takes back HP sauce in large quantities to the US with no problems - and thats not too dissimilar from curry sauce ( althought the factory in Brum is gonna close and they are moving it to Holland - yes Holland!!!)
