Please forgive me for asking such a basic question.
Is it possible to check award availability online?
I do not have enough points at the moment to redeem, but would like to see what sort of availability is out there, and whether to transfer points to Flying Club.

Yes you can go through the booking procedure Login and choose Flights for Miles; and put in the route, number of pax and the dates, it will show you if the date is available and tell you you do not have enough miles to make the booking

Hi de2007, and welcome [y]
Yes, it is.
You can make a dummy booking. If a flight shows up as selectable, then there's availability. If not, then they're sold out of that class +/- 1 day either side. (If your date's not available, it'll suggest nearby dates instead).
You can do this regardless of whether you have sufficient miles. Just log into Flying Club, and click "flights for miles".

I tried doing that (select miles for flights), which shows availability, but when I select that, it leads to a page which detailed how much the ticket costs. Am I doing something wrong?

You sure you are slecting "Flights For Miles" not "Flights For Money" coz it works fine for me (several times!)?

hmmm... this is puzzling.
definitely miles for flights.
as soon as i click that, it goes to a page where you select where you want to fly, and in which class (cheapest/ flexible for each class).
dont know whether this is a bug with the Australian webpage. My account is from Australia, and it automatically goes there when I click "miles for flights" even if I started from the UK webpage.

If you're getting to the "select flights" page (choose outbound & inbound), you've already found that there's availability - which is what you're after isn't it? If I go and select flights from the availability, I get the "Unfortunately, you do not have enough miles to fly that particular route" message on the next page...
Cheers

Have you tried logging onto the Oz site directly rather than being redirected from the UK site?
If you have and you get the same result there may be a bug in the Oz site in the way it deals with the query - I should report it to FC.

It is the same whether I log in to Oz site, or UK site.
After logging in, it tells me how many miles I have.
When I click on "flights for miles", the next page that displays has "book flights>flying club redemption" at the top, and then the rest of the page has "tell us where you'd like to fly" -- where you can select destination, class, etc.
The next page then display the outbound and inbound flight options, but I notice that the "flying club redemption" on the page title does not appear anymore, rather, it is just "book flights" step 2, then step 3 which displays the price of the flights selected.

Sounds like the site has got screwed up, as I said above, better to report it to FC and while you are talking to them, get them to check availability for you

Mine has always done this too, so when everyone else selects miles for flights and then selects the flights and you get the option afterwards I get the price page, what does everyone else get?

I get what Michael said - which is what is supposed to happen, well if you don't have enough miles that is

OK - A summary of the result I get from this search. Availability on the following dates:
SYD-HKG - 1, 3, 4, 5, 9, 11, 13 (stopped at 13th)
HKG-SYD - (start at 11th) 12, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22
Hope this helps.
