HKG Double Daily

I know there have been rumours before about a HKG double daily service but i've been told that this will start in November. Anyone know if this is right??

According to VITB in this recent thread.. It will be 4 times a week from October, then daily when VS get more A346 aircraft.

When Aer John and I were at the Manor House the Head of Marketing told us that there would be a second service expected to be in October

Its going to start around about October 27th and will be a 4 times a week service and then will go daily when we have more A346s

Has there been any decision on timings? ISTR that it was going to be quite close to the existing VS200/201.

There must a press release from VS in the pipeline soon on new routes.......

If HKG was to go twice daily, October is not far away - I'm sure they would want to maximize ticket sale time.

Also, I am right in saying that nothing official has come from VS yet on next summers GLA news???

Well no nothing official from VS! Although VH printing it in the 2007 Florida broucher which is now out in travel agents, is fairly official really isnt it.

GLA has been announced to VS staff on their intranet site. Not sure if VS are selling the flight or if it's only available through VH. Only 6 flights for 2007 though.

I would have thought Virgin would time this new flight to leave HK in the morning as Qantas and Cathay and soon Air New Zealand all have morning flights to London. What do you think?

Morning Departures are not good flights ex HKG for yield (I used to be in a commercial position with CX studying this route).
The ANZ, QF and CX morning flights are full of Australia/Kiwi transit pax, which is generally low yield.

Cathays biggest money makers are the 11pm/12am night flights, as most Business passengers get to spend a full day in the office, chill in the lounge and then get to London for a full days work the next morning.

Absolutely. The late night flights from HK are excellent as you can get a day's work done pretty much anywhere in the Far East and catch a flight home via Hong Kong that night and be home the following morning.

That is also borne out by a recent Trip Report someone filed from a trip HKG-LHR on NZ39, I think they had most of a row to themselves in Y.

That said, I usually have terrible trouble sleeping on planes - yes, even in the Suite - unless I totally wear myself out first.

Even then, the danger is that I still only manage to sleep fitfully, or not at all, so I will often take daylight flights, to avoid feeling like death at the other end.

Just my opinion but the LON-HKG market is rather saturated at the moment with upto 10 flights a day from LHR as well as Oasis flying daily from LGW.

Not sure i would go as far as to say saturated, what i would say is that it is very competitive. Oasis is aimimg at a different market, but will have some impact on VS. I think the aircraft can be better used on other routes.

If you think it's saturated, try getting a flight at the moment (though the Rugby Sevens might be the reason behind that & EVEN OASIS have a staff travel embargo!!!!)
