Very dodget the left wing looked very close to the ground at one point

Was it an ILS or hands on landing? There were certainly some last minute corrections to the wing attitude!

It would almost certainly have been a "hands on" landing. How was the wind yesterday as from what I could see from the video the left main gear touched first, then the right hand side came down a bit heavy, followed by some right rudder to straighten up. This would indicate wind coming across the runway from left to right.

John

In fact having watched this clip from Sky http://www.zapmega.com/videos/a380skynews.mov

It looks like the left hand main gear was indeed first down then the NOSE wheels and finally the RH mains and a bit of "waggling" from the wings!

John

Given the wind conditions, the correct way to put the aircraft down is *ahem* 'firmly', so the pilot did an excellent job [y]

Totally agree Pete. Any landing that doesn't end up in a fireball is good enough for me! ;)

Don't flame me, but I think the 747 still takes off and lands with a little more grace and magic than that one.

I don't think anything will match a 747 for the affection guys hold for boys toys.

Well said EGG, the 380 has a lot to live up to if she is going to replace the 744 in popularity [y]

I agree egg. I think the 380 definately needs a bit of a stretch to make it look a bit less ungainly that it currently does.

The 747 is an icon and you don't get that status overnight. I'll be very intersted in developements with 747-8XX when it comes along.

As a little aside, my mate who currently flies the 744 with VAA and who will most probably have the seniority for a succesful bid to train on the 380 is a little unsure of it so far. He loves the 744 and is a little unimpressed with the location of the 380 cockpit - "It'll be like flying a Luton Van" says he!!! [oo][oo][oo]

John

I thought I heard in one of the news reports that Boeing had scrapped this and were now just concentrating on the 787?
