Virgin USA to Make Announcement On Fleet, Eyes February Launch
Speaking to Bloomberg Radio yesterday, Virgin Group Chairman Richard Branson said he expects an announcement "over the next several days" on whether his company's U.S. airline will operate Airbus or Boeing Aircraft.
Branson, who said the airline will announce an order of 30-40 aircraft, said he expects the airline to be launched around February 2005.
Speaking on how the carrier will distinguish itself from other low-fare carriers, Branson said "First of all, America is an enormous marketplace and there are plenty of places that JetBlue and Southwest do not fly at which people are suffering very high airfares. The second thing is that we will be coming out with a very different kind of airline -- even from JetBlue, a good airline. We will be fully-frilled, the best quality airline flying in America but we will be offering fantastic fares. We are trying to make a Virgin difference, as we have done with Virgin Atlantic."
"Who knows, we could back fall flat on our faces," Branson concluded. "But our track record has been pretty good and we think we should make a success of it."
