I couldn't find a thread to help me with this.

I am booking flights for next year and I could pay £399 per adult for E or £765 for PE (to orlando Dec 07) Is the extra money worth it? It would be over £1300 more than Ecom for all of us to fly PE.

Thanks for you help

This has been discussed time and time again, albeit not for a while, so all of the old threads may be archived if you have done a search and can't find any.

Well, here's one for the pot:

Note that VS have just reduced the Economy baggage allowance from 2 x 32kg to 2 x 23kg on transatlantic routes.

Is PE worth the money? Well, I BET in a years time (when everyone's forgotten about what the Y allowance USED to be), they'll be selling the "increased baggage allowance" in PE as a benefit.

So, if you're planning on taking bags more than 23kg, yes - it's worth it ;)

(Not trying to have the "how much do you need to take" debate on luggage, just making sure this is in there so I can refer to my prediction next year when it's listed as a "feature" of PE ;)[:0])

Ok sorry,[:I] I am new and maybe not searching properly. I know what PE offers, and would love to just be able to upgrade with miles. However the date I want to travel is very popular and If we don't go that day we won't be going.

So really the question is would you pay £765 for PE over £399 for ecom. Considering there will four of us. We can afford it, but is sounds a lot of money. I know that coming back from Orlando in ecom, we would have given anything to have more room.

Thanks again

If "anything" equates to around £366, then I think you've just answered your own question... ;)[:w]

While I fly in PE where I can, I'm still not convinced it's really worth the money. Yes, the extra legroom and better recline is what you are paying for, so if you think that's worth £366pp then pay it.

If you think you can put up with Economy, spend the money on a better hotel and time when you get there :)

If its a debate over space and service and cash then why not just book the return leg in PE so that you can enjoy the end of your trip with a comfortable seat, a separate check in and boarding queue and the knowledge that at the end of the holiday you have alittel something to look forward to??[^]

To be honest I have traveled PE in the past because there is a greater chance of an opup and for the additional tps.I don't think it is worth the premium over Y for the bit of extra space the new PE seats give on the LHR fleet.

However as you will be on a LGW 747 the upper deck PE cabin is well worth the extra cost as they are the old type seats with much more space. The upper deck is all PE and really feels like a business class cabin, and in my experience gets top notch service from the crew.

£1300 buys an awful lot of drinks / food / anything

Personally no, wouldn't think of spending the extra on PE, I would rather upgrade the room at the hotel / upgrade the car etc etc

Guess it depends on just how much the extras offered in PE mean to you and your fellow travellers

Or just upgrade yourself and have a nice holiday from the family for a few hours [8D]

When you get on the plane and head upstairs, make out you were upgraded for free and there's nothing you can do about it, point them down the back of the bus.

For 1300 quid I'd have to say yes but it really comes down to what you're priorities are.

For example, you could probably rent a Merc, BM or Jag for that kind of money over the cost of the regular rental car. Or you could get a much nicer room or a better class of hotel.

Or you could push the boat out and do all of the above.

Makes you think, doesn't it?

It's all in the name for me!!!! Travel is about comfort in my eyes, trying to squeeze into a space not designed for my size is no fun!!!! [:0]

That will be a yes from me then.... [y]

Nobody has mentioned the added benefits of PE check in, luggage going in separate containers with UC and coming out quicker, plus often on their own carousel.

You also get off the plane quicker, which is useful if you've got a connecting flight.

It's quite a bit of extra money, but the few times I have been it's made the world of difference. I must add that the thought of going to LA in Y would almost be enough to put me off [:#]

Edited - looks like a few of us posted at the same time so some of you have mentioned the above!

Spidey

Welcome to V-Flyer.

I would say a resounding Yes - many contributors have already covered why I so enjoy the upper deck on a 747 to and from Orlando[y]

Beware - there is one drawback[:w][:w]. Like Mrs Buns and myself, you may find yourself saying in the future "Is UC worth the extra"[}:)][}:)]

I guess I have to answer a YES to this question also. I should add that I have never been in PE on VS - but know more than a few people who have (& who have also flown in Y on VS too). One such friend did a round trip from LGW to MCO a few weeks back and his comment was "PE made the difference between a bearable flight [in Y] & a very enjoyable one [in PE]".

I have to admit that for my November trip to MCO, I had originally booked in PE both ways, but thanks to a bonus at work (+ promotion) I decided to spend some of the cash & fly UC, based partly on some of the reviews on this site. I hope UC lives up to the expectation!

Spidey my vote goes in the "Yes" camp for the reasons expressed so eloquently above!

Kraken, I am sure you will not regret the additional expenditure! Well, let me rephrase that - I am sure you will regret it for the rest of your life; because Y or W will never be good enough again ;) go figure [:?]
