BAE Systems are focusing on their defence business and away from non-defence aerospace. The likelihood is that BAE Systems will be looking at more US acquisitions in the near future in an attempt to compete more directly against US businesses like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman.

Interesting piece at the end of that article:
quote:

Airbus is 80% owned by European aerospace and defence group EADS, the remaining 20% is currently held by the UK's BAE Systems which has just exercised an option to sell its stake.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BAE's airbus shares sell off was announced a few months back I think.

Yep and the price they wanted was pretty high, guess after this they may want to think again.
I don't want to start a Airbus v Boeing flame war on here, but after THIS delay do you think airlines that have slot's further down the pipeline will look at the 747-8 (lord I hate that call it the 748)as the delivery times will be about the same time,if Airbus is lucky.
Edit: It's has just come across the wires that Emirates and Malaysia Airlines are reconsidering their order and Singapore Airlines and Qantas Airways are seeking compensation.

Now, given these further delays, what chance VS deciding to cancel the A380 order and go for 748s or 777s?
Doesn't the 787 announcement refer to regional jets for SIA, not long haul which the 380 is meant to serve?
Whatever, it is really bad news for Airbus, although note they still intend to deliver the first to SIA in 2006 ... and then a reduced number in 2007 ... looks like VS's order may not come till 2009 if at all.
But to be sure, the airlines will have known this before we have and will be adapting their plans to suit.
