From today's VS press release:

quote:
Virgin Atlantic Airways announced today that Richard Branson will be attempting his next world record – the Channel Challenge - in celebration of the airline’s 20th birthday in June this year. Richard will be attempting to set the Guinness World Record for the fastest crossing of the English Channel by an amphibious vehicle. The attempt will be undertaken in a Gibbs Aquada on 14 June (weather permitting) from Dover to Calais and if successful the 22-mile journey could be completed in less than two hours.

flying club sent out an email yesterday afternoon, which I assume went to all Gold members, inviting them to join the flotilla of ships supporting SRB as he makes the attempt - first come first served.

Any other V-Flyers going along? I know Mr Mannion is going, although I somehow doubt we'll be the only 2 from here...

Us mere mortal Siler Flying Club members do sometimes get these sort of invites as I got an invite to the UCS launch party :D :D

Couldn't make it though so I probably wont get asked again!!!

Replied to the e mail within 20 minutes of receiving it and have been put on the waiting list. So it would appear not many places available.

What was the timestamp of the email you got?

[:I] Opps! Sorry Jonathan. Thought that was implied by our attendance (all V-Flyers together, and all that)

There's at least 3 of us there that I know of now. RM, yourself and me. We should arrange to be on the same boat at least (assuming there's more than one).

Got my info pack today, and *ouch* an early start at 6.30am. So I'm booked into the Premier Lodge at Dover on Sunday night - don't think I could face driving down that early in the morning! Anybody else going to be in Dover on Sunday night fancy a nightcap in a local boozer?

I'll be in the 'lodge' Sunday night (joy of joys) and more than happy to 'take the edge off' the evening...

I'll IM you in the morning.

jonathan.

Now have a place so hope to join you on Sunday evening. The lodge is now full, so trying to find somewhere else to stay.

Yup, RM sadly can't make it, so maybe you got his space - Looking forward to meeting you on Sunday evening. Let's not make it *too* late though, eh?

To say that I'm disappointed that I can't make it is a sever understatement, but unfortunately work dictates another priority.

Maybe next time.

Thanks,
Richard
