Has anyone else seen the AmEx TagAlong promotion?

http://www.virgin.com/tagalong

Now 2 for 1 on UC is awesome when you can use it with D fares but then as always theres a catch:

This offer is exclusive to American Express Card members. To qualify for this offer you must
a) become a member of flying club for the first time

Now that could be one of the stupidest clauses ever - lets alienate our existing customer base. Wonder who is doing the validation on this?

There are some other restrictions too:

But for those of you that have not signed up yet for FC then it could be a great deal! If you wanted to be really difficult, you could question the statement of becoming a member of Flyign Club for the first time, what happened if you were a Freeway member but you let your membership lapse? Ellible or not? :)

No great shakes for me as I'm single so don't really need the companion offer, though I suppose I could have gone halves with a chum so we both get to fly UC for a really good price...

Thanks,
Richard

Hmmm..that would be pretty sensational if it was available to existing Flying Club members. How do American Express know if you are an existing or a new member when you phone the Travel Service to book?

American Platinum Amex holders already have a "Free Upper Class Companion Ticket" offer of some sort on Virgin Atlantic.

Thats the Amex USA card. The flight program on the UK card doesnt feature any deal with virgin..

I must say, I find the promotion quite odd that its for those who are not yet FC members...(As you say RM, alienating existing customers..) Maybe this is actually some sort of mis-wording? Might give VS a ring to confirm.

Jonathan

That's because it's not the same offer :D
The one you quoted was the summer 20k bonus miles for flying UC - the one that Richard quoted was for a companion ticket. ;)

Cheers
