This might seem a little silly but do you need a visa to enter UAE?

The DXB website under "countries that do not require a visa" the UK is ommited from the list. Unsure if this is an error, but the visa requirments section of the VS website is pretty hard to understand and the FCO website says no visa required so i'm confused [:?]

No, none is required. It is so refreshing after the horrendous lines in the US

Not visa for people from the US/UK/Ireland. I remember a requirement that if your passport had an Isreali stamp in it you were not allowed but I now can only find that Isrealis are not allowed in the UAE.

Um, actually the answer is YES!

However don't panic. You don't have to apply. Tourist visas are granted at the airport. I fyou are travelling on business strictly speaking you should apply in advance, however 99% of business people in UAE enter on tourist visas. The airports in UAE are currently in the process of changing their stamps, so you will get a visa stamp in your passport saying either 60 or 30 days. Whichever it says, the visa is actually granted for the full 60 days. If you stay longer than that, you must either renew the visa locally or pay a penalty of 100AED per day.

Just checked my passport and it says "Valid for 60 days". It was the not having to apply bit I was thinking of when I said no

I find this is a common misconception in the visa world... In many countries you require a visa, but the visa is actually just a stamp in your passport that is issued when you arrive. But beware anyone who over stays that stamp!!! And as sailor rightly says, many countries that have "walk in visas" do require you to preapply for a visa if you are going there on business, other (such as Korea) have it hidden away in the tourist visa info that it is also valid for attending seminars or meetings.
I find it good practice to turn up at immigration in sandals and flowery shirt , but perhaps not Chicago in January!
