Seats for Disabled Passenger

Hi,

Wondered if anyone would know if there are special seats for disabled passengers. I'm flying with a disabled passenger on 8th July VS005 and wondered if we should let them know beforehand that she is disabled.

She has a wheelchair which we're taking on holiday with us, last time we went away, she was taken to the aircraft before us (they didn't take us at the same time), and there was no extra legroom allocated for her at all. She is still mobile, but ideally would need to be able to stretch her legs out in front of her if possible.

I wondered if we could pre-book bulkhead seats, as we have a 5 year old travelling with us, and I don't expect we'd be given exit seats.

I'm sure someone on this excellent site will be able to offer some great advise, before I talk to Virgin.

Yes, you should contact Virgin Special Assistance before hand.

They can arrange wheelchair to the plane, assistane on and off the plane, seat assignments, even explain the special assistance check in desks.

You must contact virgin special assistance as Alan has said and make sure that they send you a form to fill in. You must return this with all the relevant information - this will include details of your medical condition and what medication you may be taking, any special seating requests etc.

If you are taking a wheelchair with you I believe that they will also need measurements and weight.

I recently travelled to UVF with special assistance but without a wheelchair as I can walk short distances. Your luggage should also be labelled at check-in with disabled tags and check in agent will have all your details to hand - I also checked that Virgin had received them as on one occasion this did not happen.

I've contacted Special Assistance and a lovely lady took all our details etc. She wanted to speak to my mother in law who's disabled to discuss her disability in more detail.

Kathleen in Special Assistance, said to me that she'll reserve a bulk-head seat for 2 people, and put the other 2 behind, also if the flight is not too busy or the bulkheads are not needed for other disabled people or babies that we might be able to all sit together.

She was extremely helpful, and I'm so glad that I found this site, as last time my mother in law was in a normal seat and it made her condition so much worse for our holiday.
