Can I put my aerosol in the hold?

I am flying LHR-FCO-PMO tomorrow, currently packing at the moment.
I normally take my deodrent in my carry-on- but for obvious reasons I can't.

Am I right in thinking that the hold is pressurized- just not as much as the passeenger cabin?
And therefore it should be ok to put deodrent, hairspray etc. in my checked luggage?

thanks in advance

Aerosols are only supposed to go in your checked (hold) luggage anyway. Most A/C holds are now pressurised now anyway so it wont effect an aerosol can.

The hold has to be pressurised, as the cabin floor isn't a pressure bulkhead. The whole fuselage of the aircraft is pressurised, to the same pressure.

The hold may be cooler though, because there's no warm bodies down there.

Air circulates into the passenger cabin, and then through the grilles at floor level down into the cargo space, through the cargo space, and leaves the aircraft through outflow valves at the back of the plane.

If you look at our favourite "coffee stain" photo of G-VBIG (yes, the brown mark is a coffee stain from one of the galley drains) you can clearly see the outflow valves just under the rear doors.

Boeing now have a whole section on their website about cabin air systems because there's been so much media bull spread about it.

Cheers,
Mike
