Changing Names of PAX on X Class

The subject says it all really. Despite all the downgrading of security etc, we have decided not to go on our SFO trip [:0]. It would just be too stressful.

So.....is it possible to change the names on an X class ticket?

Thanks for your help, I couldn't find the answer on the Fare Codes

Highly unlikely. That's a mega saver and on the next class of ticket up you can't change names. It's very unusual for name changes to ever be allowed or Brokers would snap up all the cheap seats and then sell them on at a profit.

Thanks Decker[y]

I thought that would be the case but just wanted to check and offer them to someone else if it was possible.

Well France here I come!

Sorry not to be more hopeful [:(]. Funnily I couldn't find ANY X fares on ExpertFlyer.

I thought name changes are completely disallowed now anyway?

(and haven't been allowed for quite some time)

The only way it's normally possible is to buy a fully-refundable ticket and buy a new one.

I was hedging my bets and allowing for newly married people on long booked flights.

If this is an X class ticket purchased through Virgin Atlantic directly, why not at least get some of those taxes back? Non refundable tickets can have the taxes refunded.

That's one advantage of current rate of airline taxes and fees, at least if you cancel, you feel like you get something back out of it!

I think if you're newly married, you have to bring proof of the marraige (certificate, etc) to travel on the "wrong" name if you need to.

Edit: Found it - here

Q. I have just got married and my passport is still in my maiden name - Is this ok?

A. Yes, you can travel with your passport still in yur maiden name but you must take along your marriage certificate and another form of identification (preferably with your picture on it). EXCEPTION You cannot travel to the USA unless your passport and ticket show the same name. The USA will NOT ACCEPT a marriage certificate with your passport in your maiden name whilst your ticket shows your married name.
Please note: It is still the passenger's responsibility to check all visa and immigration requirements prior to travel

Thanks Juliet [y]

I had not thought about that.

What is this Hang Up with Married names?... just book the ticket with what ever name is most likely to be on your passport at the time! Even if technically you are Mr and Mrs.
Won't that annoy the americans even more? I know it did one time with my X.. she (sensibly some may say) never took my surname, but when travelling with our kids they (US immigration) couldn't get their heads around the kids having my surname, but travelling on Belgian passports along with my X and her Belgian passport and maiden name. (Belgian passports for kids are considerably cheaper [:o)])

I have always wondered why name changes have been so strict on tickets, but i suppose it is all part of the age old art of confusing the hell out of us with fare codes and making sure no one other than the airlines can make money out of it.
