If you have a glut of miles to burn I would go for the Y upgrade. Make sure you buy in the right fare class. As already mentioned in another thread, VAA website now shows class of ticket.

The cheapest option to LAX will be an L fare (then B then Y), which you can upgrade using miles, note that this is the lowest rung in upgradeable fares and dependant on availability at the time of booking.

If you were to do the same for the reverse journey however, you would need a B fare (L fares are not upgradeable ex-USA as they are with most other destinations)

Check out the Spending Miles section of the FAQ which covers eligibility in further detail.

Sarah

Not sure if you can buy a one-way L fare, think it is full Y only.

Hmm É I think you are right actually ... my bad [:I] In which case, buying a one way Y is probably not very efficient miles or money wise versus an upgradeable return L/B .... manymiles, you 2 TPS short or something?

Thanks,
Sarah

That was the real question, I assumed that only Y and W fares were sold one way.

Could buy a L/N hybrid RT and not use the return element.... prob cheaper than a Y1.

Thanks,
