Departing LAX question?

Having only ever flown into LAX before, next month will be my first time departing from LAX.

My question is what sort of shops/restaurants are there? Is it best to go airside straight away? When I flew out of SFO last year we made the mistake of going airside straight after checkin only to find NOTHING to do. Thank god we had took a Subway with us :)

A while since I did it, but ISTR it's much the same. A few bars and restaurants.

That's right. I'm afraid that at the moment this is a rather boring terminal. In Terminal 2 where VS departs there are several foodservice outlets, a dutyfree shop and a magazine shop after the security check-in. For food IIRC there is a Starbucks, two restaurant/cafes, and a fast food (Burger King or McDonald's).

That'll do thanks. Is there any free WI-FI?

Totally agree with Chuck! I've been to more pax friendly terminals on Greek islands! LAX T2 is not somewhere to be delayed ;)

Andy,
If you are a member of the Northwest Airlines club or traveling in a premium cabin on NW or partners you can use the free wifi in the Northwest WorldClub on the 2nd level.

Otherwise here is a listing of airports and wifi availability that you may find useful.

Wow. Must have changed the carry on bag rules.

Airside is better then landside, however it's worse than pretty much everywhere else. ;)
If you want something with I *love* LA on it, there's a shop which sells pretty much just that. There's a few food outlets but nothing to write home about.
The lounges are on the second floor - I've only tried the old VS (partner) lounge which was uninspiring but certainly better - VS use a new one now I think, ANZ[?]

Worst International terminal in the whole of the VS network in my mind. Sorry, it's appalling.

Encouraging words there, Paul;)

But it's the truth - not sure about LOS though[}:)]

Ok thanks guys. Guess we'll be finding a Subway prior to dropping the car off then!

Well heres a couple of things I found today while waiting for my flight VS008...

Downstairs at arrivals is a Starbucks. If youre early, as I was, this is a refuge where you can get an arguably decent coffee. Try Java Chip - no cream.

I am newly gold so they wrote 'Gold Card - Lounge OK' on my boarding card and I am now in the Air New Zealand Lounge which is better than the Northwest Lounge I tried before here.

You might try writing 'Gold Card Lounge OK' on your ticket.. I couldnt possibly comment on whether it would work....

Brie, Beef, Crab Salad and Fruit. Nothing hot. Plenty of Gin and Tonic... Free Internet Terminals. No WiFi needed.

You might do, but you'd be being a bit of a t*** [ii]

I've heard if you photocopy tax discs, that also saves a fortune every year too...

In addition to Paul's reply, I am sure the California Penal code will have an offence which is the equivalent of the UK's Section 1 of the Theft Act 1978, as amended by section 4 of the Theft (Amendment) Act 1996, so you could also find your departure from LAX being delayed somewhat. [n]

Nick,
That would be the anti-graffiti laws, presumably?[V][:w]
