Hi all

Have used the search function looking for any updated info on Duty Free on US flights but can't find anything relevant.

There has been talk on this site that the restrictions have been relaxed when buying duty free on the outward journey, with the 'goodies' being delivered to the aircraft prior to departure.

Is this the case[?]

The DFT site still says not, as does the VS site.. confused? I will be[:w]

Hi droflet

When I travelled out from Gatwick at the end of August to Orlando, a scheme had come in whereby you could purchase items in the main duty free shop on the ground floor and these were handed to you at the end of the jetway.

This enbales you to purchase booze and perfume but the facility was not extended to stuff you might want from Boots and other smaller outlets that you might be thinking of using during the flight.

Hope this helps

For all LGW departing flights:

Duty Free as Buns said- purchase it and it is delivered to the a/c like it is in the US.

You are allowed to purchase anything post duty free and take it on board provided you have a recipt for it- so you can get things like paracetamol from Boots and use on the a/c. No liquids though. Having said that secondary search at LGW was so poor- you could get liquids on no problem- though you do so at your own risk.

What has been said above is all correct based on our experiences out of Manchester on Sept 1st - but as far as I am aware the ban on liquids STILL applies to all US carriers.

So assuming you are on VS then its order and collect at the gate - which I found to be a better way of ordering as it saved me lugging it about!!!

Flying out of LHR on the 28th August to SFO we were allowed to purchase duty free goods which were then delivered to you at the departure gate. There was a notice board explaining that pax on any Virgin flight to the US could do this. I was allowed to keep the products that I had purchased with me as they were neither gel or liquid[?]

When flying out of LHR again last Friday (15th)to EWR I went to purchase some aftershave for MrG to be told that I was unable to do so.[:0] I explained that 3 weeks ago we were able to do this. The cashier checked with her colleague who then told me that the rules had since been changed! I had also just lost a lipstick to security at fast track that I had forgotten to pack into my suitcase.[:#]

Having flown between LHR, SFO, EWR AND BDA over the last month, I have never been so confused in my entire life![ii]
