I have been having a running battle with Virgin over the allocation of their Flyer points whenever I book a flight over the net to Vegas. We go there 4 times a year, and I have noticed that my miles have gone right downhill for the best part of this year. The latest flight we booked cost over £600 per ticket in economy, and I was only allocated 2,500 miles for the whole trip, not just the sector. I noticed this when I was about to book, so I phoned up flying club and asked why this was. The guy there had a look and said that his system was showing 10,000? and that it was probably a system error, and assured me that th full allocation would be given. Well, you guessed it, I only got the 2,500, so I phoned and asked why this was the reason that was given was that I booked an N class ticket. I told them that if you book online, this is the only ticket you can buy on the drop down , except for flexible, which costs £800 more!!! When I made a pretend booking to LA, it allocated me a Q class ticket, which was only £340 and 10,000 miles for the round trip. I have tried all sorts of routes, and the Vegas one is the only one that books you an N class,(when I tried anyway, so don't beat me up on that) very strange. So I got the guy to try it out himself, he phoned me back, said that it was weird but true, and told me to contact Customer Relations and give them his name. Well, after waiting the full 28 days for the reply, their responce was that I had booked a discount ticket, ie: an N class. It's as if they had not read my letter!!! I know that, I was after a reasoning for the discrepency in the allocation of ticket types, and why the system at FC had 10,000 and I only got 2,500. So I have contacted them again, and will see what they come up with. Anyone else have this problem?

There's long been a problem with display mileages for the LAS flights on the web - but that only relates to the mileage shown being for 1 leg rather than the return journey (and that problem's been in existence for some months now).

If you've booked an N class fare, you should get 50% miles + 1 TP for each leg - i.e. 2612 miles for each, making a total of 5224. The guy on the phone was obviously mistaken that you were on a full fare.

That said, the 50% miles should credit automatically, assuming that you've not managed to do a mileage/cash upgrade..... Here's what showed on my FC online statement 2 days after each leg flown:

23 Aug 2006 Gold Membership Offer. 50% Miles Flown Bonus. 2,612 0
23 Aug 2006 LGW-LAS Discounted Economy Class 2,612 1
28 Aug 2006 Gold Membership Offer. 50% Miles Flown Bonus. 2,612 0
28 Aug 2006 LAS-LGW Discounted Economy Class 2,612 1

I would submit a missing miles claim for whichever leg hasn't been credited (check your online statement for this), along with the boarding card for that leg (keep a copy!).

Cheers

You might want to try this first as isn't the online missing miles thing all done automatically and instantly now for VS flights? I've never needed to do it but I think you just need your PNR.

Ahhh true, good point thanks James - I forgot about that since I've never had a problem with miles for "normal" flights crediting automatically. The only ones I've had a problem with have been mileage upgrades, which we all know don't show up automatically....:)

Update, received an email this morning from Customer Relations. It seems that they know about the problem with booking online to Las Vegas, it seems the system ALWAYS books you an N class ticket when you choose "lowest available" which it shouldn't, as I paid over £600 per ticket in August. So, they looked at my records, and as we have traveled to Vegas 3 times already this year, they have credited our accounts with 15,000 miles each[y]
