Hi

Confused here! Can you take a camera on board a plane to the USA now? The virgin website implies you can, but just speaking to an agent at Virgin Atlantic call centre, they have said yes, but take out the battery and put it in the hold luggage!

They then went to say you will have to show the camera to be working at security? How can you if the battery is in the hold?!

Anyone else flown to the USA since the terror alert? What was their experience?

Heading off on VS27 on Monday! :o)

The info came from the mouth of a Virgin employee on their call centre. They are clearly reading from a script as they could not get their head around my argument about if the battery is in the hold how can you test it!

They said they were passing on the information given to them from the virgin management!

To answer my own question and for others I have been pointed to the BAA website. Please see the very long link below:

Yes, and there are three specific questions that are relevant:

Can I take electrical items such as an MP3 player, portable DVD player and laptop?
Yes, there are no limitations on electrical items. It is just the size of the bag you carry them in. That also dictates the total amount you can carry. Be aware, though, that we will ask for items to be removed and screened separately.

Can I take my digital camera and mobile phone through security?
Yes, but as with electrical items, you will be asked to remove them for separate screening.

Can I carry spare batteries in my cabin baggage for my electrical items, such as laptop, DVD player, digital camera and mobile phone?
Yes, you can.
