Surprised on-ones mentionned this yet today (have searched so apologies if duplicate post)...

The first Flyingclub member to have reached 2,000,000 miles has redeemed it for a trip to (inner)Space!

Link here

Also surprised it wasn't anyone here!

Well, it had to be on flown miles only (2m of them!), so all those transfers Mr. Mannion does from Amex don't count towards it ;)

Still, there IS an interesting development on the earning requirements in that article:

Virgin Atlantic's Flying Club enables one cardholder per year, who has earned two million miles or more through flying on Virgin Atlantic or spending on the Virgin Atlantic credit card, to venture into space.

... should open it up to quite a few more [:w]

I assume the '30 flights' since 2000 must be a typo ?

Or he has been seriously abusing his new black amex in the last few months [:0]( actually, even if he had I doubt MBNA would have transfered them correctly ;))

Unless all 30 were taken as 10 hour flights, in Upper, during a triple miles promo that is... [:?]

I believe the figure is 80 not 30!

Well if he managed that he deserves it[8D].

But after reading the rest of the article I'll stick with the typo theory. The article states there have been 4,447 astronauts to date and Alan will be one of the first 1,000 astronauts in History [?]

Obviously the proof readers day off.

So only one person per year then?

Fair play to the fella!

If it was me though, I wouldn't be spending 2m on a flight to space - 20 flights in Upper would be more use for me. It's good value compared to the Necker Celebration week reward though - $40k (2x $20k) v $200k, and the other rewards.

V-Ben, he's not the first person to reach 2m though, there are others that have got there before. He's just the first to choose to spend them on the Galactic reward.

The credit card earning route should be interesting - there are some out there that spend really obscene amounts every month. I remember the guy over on FT that clocks up millions of MR points every month, and kind of took AMEx by surprise when they offered the Aston Martin DB7 as a reward for 35m points...

Thanks,
Richard

Richard

Neither would I Richard, but the trip is actually far better value than you suggest. He gets to return as well.
