I'm off to Sydney next week with just a 90min stop in HKG. Could anyone tell me if there is any smoking areas in the HKG CH, and if not the closest place I might find one. I've checked the airport website which says there are 12 smoking lounges (phew! [y] ) but I failed to decipher where they are located.
I normally fly west and can survive 8 hours smoke free, but 23 hours to Sydney might have me chewing the amenity pack if i don't get to fill my lungs with tar half way[:$].
Never been to HKG before, always flown into Singapore or Bangkok so any info from fellow social lepers would be appreciated.
On aside, we have 5k & 6k booked for LHR-HGK, do we get the same seats assigned on the HKG-SYD leg ?

Yes there are indeed smoking rooms in HKG airport. Ones not too far from the HKG Clubhouse/VS gate area (usually gate 36). The actual smoking room is located next to gate 61.
It's located on the same level as the departure gate area. It's quite well signposted.
You basically just need to open the door breath in and bingo - you get your instant hit [:w]
The HKG Clubhouse is located on the upper level on the corner of the northwest and central concourse area in departures.

On your second question, you'll be given two Boarding Cards at LHR, one for each leg, so you can check they are for the same seats - mine were a couple of weeks ago. I reckon 2 - 7K are the best seats for this flight, as you've got maximum privacy (facing the back of the middle suites) and the least 'through traffic', so you've made a good choice. Just make sure you keep them through OLCI or early check-in.
When you disembark at HKG you have to take all your hand baggage with you and pass through a security check, and you then go up one floor, to the departures level - you'll be directed by staff anyway. The CH is another floor up, and overlooks the departures level. I found it near perfect for what I wanted, with (in order of my priorities) showers, food and drink, and WiFi. You'll have 90 minutes or so in there, so plenty of time to do all you want and get down to the smoking 'lounge'. It's actually more like a one sided goldfish bowl, with all the non-smokers waiting at Gate 61 peering in at you. Anyway, have a great trip!
Best wishes
