I know there is a few threads already about this subject, but can anyone tell me what UC kits used to contain.

If you are referring to the old zippered Oswald Boateng, This might help.

As for the older ones, the standard toothpaste, eye shades, socks and pen, in addition to varying items according to the kit itself (notepads, keyrings, etc). Once apon a time you used to get some nice Virgin Vie products in them too. We have a plethora of old ones at home that Richard covets if you are particularly interested ;)

Thanks,
Sarah

I thought I remember someone saying something about cufflinks?

The OB kits used to come with a little pouch that either had Cufflinks or a vanity mirror in them, most often it was cufflinks. IIRC, The current kits dont seem to have these now but have a linen luggage tag instead.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thank god...another amenity kit thread. I was beginning to lose hope.

To the lovely Sarah's point, the Virgin Vie products were indeed quality. In fact, I have a salesperson in Blighty through whom I order refills (kind of like the USA's Mary Kay lady). I am today 72 years of age and am often still asked for ID at the local bar...that's how good they are. [:w]

The cufflinks were marvy...they came in purple or black. I often get sartorially cheeky and wear one of each.

Also, to no one's point at all, the little mirror reminded me of cocaine ephemera. It was too small for anything but a pick-me-up in the WC. I did not do that myself (having a brother who suffers a terrible addiction to it), but everyone I showed it to agreed that it had that vibe to it.

Happy flying,

GJ

GJ, are you feeling okay? Virgin Vie products - oh come on, there just one step up the line from Avon. Actually no they are not, any product that relies on crazy, Blue Nun infused hen/lady sales parties obviously is second class. I preferred the Space:NK and Molton Brown ranges as they are decidely more upmarket. You wouldn't put Tesco Basics soap in your guest WC would you now? Trinny and Susannah would have a double coronary.

I'm being silly, I never use any of the damn beauty products (and yes I know it shows) that they give out in the amenity kits, I'll buy my own products that I know I can get on with. I end up giving them away to various people or to charity. The best amenity kit I ever recieved for product ahs to be the delightful little Anya Hindmarch number from BA F. No silly little gifts that I'd never use, just a good range of beauty products (two kits, one for him and one for her as we all know women's beauty needs are a whole different league comapred to us men), with a helpful guide of exactly what each one did, what it contained and when to use it; latter being done via a clever split in the inlay to show products for before take-off, during flight, and before landing. There was even a razor set in there.

Thanks,
Richard

I got cufflinks in both my outbound and inbound LGW-MCO-LGW flights in the last couple of weeks, as did others on the flight, so they are still around. :)

People seem to have forgotton the OB keyring, which was pretty pointless. Before the OB there were some nice, deep, white or reddish colour pouches which contained a nice pen and even a small pad. These were the better days of the Amenity kit - Anyway, this next point could make some folk a little green eyed - The Amenity kit I received on my Jet flight was two part, the main part being supplied and branded by BULGARI - Now top that for business class.

Have you ever received a gift bag at a charity event, filled with things like a new phone, gift certificates, etc., donated by sponsors? That's free and it's nice stuff.

Now there is a story or two. Sarah and I were at an event recently held by a very upmarket car maker that were entertaining us for the day. We had lunch and they had the most surreal product pictures on that true 80's chintz piece, the cork backed place mat. We were sat joking with the other diners at our table about the hideousness of them. Sure enough when we left our goodie bag contained a complete set of these place mats each. Did we use them last Sunday for our afternoon meal service. You bet your bottom dollar we did. True 80's retro we decided. [:I]

Very true that most of the stuff I get given in goodie bags is abysmal, but always good to use as an incentive or giveaway when I am doing a presentation. It's that classic conference game, who can ponce the most free stuff... more crap t-shirts than I can throw a stick at and as for baseball caps and pens. Well....

Thanks,
Richard

Dominic,
Welcome to V-Flyer. We're delighted to have you with us.

The thread about the Snooze Pack is available as GJ points out, through our Search feature. It ranks as one of the most discussed subjects of recent history here on V-Flyer. Feel free to add your opinions, of course!

Again, welcome.

On the cuff links the colours in full were purple (most common I think), red/pink, brown, blue and black - just thought the full list maybe useful in case anyone else thinks they have a full set with just two colours. The other gifts were indeed a key ring and a vanity mirror, but also a money clip. There were also some Christmas specials such as a Santa key ring.

Not sure on the numbers, but I nearly always got purple. To get the brown I had to ask one of the cabin crew. By red/pink I mean that they are sort of red, but it kind of looks quite pinky - they are my favourites, yet I have as much to do with camping as the caravan club.
