Hi!
Is it possible for me to do work experience at virgin atlantic? And if so what is the chance that I will get taken on?? And what things could I do there??

Hmm it's probably worth emailing them. I think any work experience placement would be in the Crawley office not in any of the airports Virgin Atlantic use due to insurance and security reasons. I used to pester them quite often, they were always helpful so give it a try.

Work Experience is possible. It's best to think of an area you would like to work in and go from there. It is quite common for the area you are assigned to to then send you around other departments in the company anyway.

Would be fun; especially if they give you a pass or more.

As a person that does done an internship with an airline, I would suggest seeing if you could have part of the program place you in different departments. Customer Service, baggage, dispatch (flight planning), Mx, Crew planning/scheduling. Honestly I cannot stress how important having a slight understanding as to how the whole airline operates. It is a system; everybodys output is someones input.

One of my bigest regrets is not better planning AJ's tour of Indy Air. So consider it.

Maybe it depends at what age and where in the company .... my work colleagues daughter did a placement from college (at age 18) as opposed to school (age 15/16). She was taking a National Diploma in Travel & Tourism... She did this at Crawley a couple of years ago and now works for Virgin at LHR

thanks guys, thanks for your answers, i think i might give it a shot?! a girl on my course has got through so i'm thinking if she can, why cant i?! oh and i am 17 years old and studying air fares and ticketing and national diploma in travel and tourism at college

Go for it, what's the worst that can happen - they might say no, but they might also say yes With your study background I'm sure they could sort something out.

Give it a go. I wish I could have done my work experience with Virgin. In fact there a days here, when I wished I could work for them full time.

jus 2 let u all no that i wasnt accepted to do work experience at virgin, they said somethin about security
so there u go, im gonna try either thomas cook or thomson travel agents

What "something" about security, out of interest?

(And what specific role did you apply for?)

I applied for ground - like in the check-in desk or departure lounge - as I knew that I wouldn't get through if I asked to do work experience with something that had to do with the planes (outside). They just said that because of security reasons we could not accept you for work experience; but they said the same thing to another girl on my course so as long as I'm not the only one!! lol

I thought you'd be applying for one of the office roles, and therefore would have had more luck there, TBH...

I think asking to work in an airport as a work placement is asking a lot especially if its at LHR/LGW, what with the current security circumstances as it is and other things etc.

However as VS045 and preiffer have said I too thought you were applying for a placement at their Crawley HQ. I think if you tried there you should be offered something there no problem.

If its ticketing you're interested in then I'm sure theres something there that will cover ticketing even if its looking through e-ticket sales because that seems to be the trend nowadays.

Anyway I'm sure you'll get a placement somewhere whether with Virgin, Thomson, Thomas Cook etc. and I wish you good luck and all the best [y]

a lot of people thought id asked to work in the offices, but i felt that if i just worked in the offices i wouldnt get much experience, what is there to do in their offices? and plus im the sort of person who likes to be doing something up and about so the airport side is more for me than office

but what ever i can get im happy with
