Another Tier points Q

Hi
Ive tried doing a search about this but can't find anything that helps.

Before my recent flight I needed 1 point to qual for Silver. My return PE flight meant that I gained sliver on the outbound flight.

On looking on the website today though, it says I require 7 tier points to re-qualify. What has happended to the other 2 tier points, have I lost them so is it a mistake?

Im certainly not the best person to answer this ... however you have lost me in your explanation [?]

... also I think it may be relevent to know your renewal date and how many TP's you had before you took the flights and also when you gained some of the TP's that you were using in your calculations.

Sorry - Im not making this very clear am I!

Ok on the 6th oct I needed 1 tier point to move from red to silver.
On the 7th Oct I took a PE return to MCO thus earning 6 tier points. (3 each way)

I thought that as I earned 6 tier points minus the 1 points that I needed to gain sliver, then the other 5 points would go towards my re-qualifying for sliver next year. However it seems that according to the VS website only the return 3 points count, and I basically "lost" the other 2 points.

Is this correct? I cant seem to get my head around the rules on this!

ISTBC, but the flight to MCO would have earned 3 points and took you to Silver. Your account would then be reset and the 3 points you earned on the return leg would count towards your Silver requalification.

In short... Yes you have lost the 2 points from you outward flight.

Tim is correct. You lose any points that are part of that sector that are used to take you to a new level or to requalify a level.

So if you have 14 points as a Red, and take an UC sector, you can't use the overhang of 4 points towards requalification. However, they will still be valid in a quest towards reaching Gold.

It's a common question, like people who sail past 30 TP's as a Gold and think anythign above the required 30 will count towards the following year. They don't.

Ok thanks. Im glad I found this out now and not next year, looks like I will have to squeeze in an extra flight somewhere next year!:D

Hope I am not being a bully by hijacking this thread, but I have a related question. Richard, or other guru, I currently need 16 tier points to get to Gold before the end of January, and plan to make a trip to New Zealand (Christchurch) soon. I plan to fly LHR-HKG-SYD then SYD-CHC. If I book UC for all four VS sectors, I would earn 20 tier points, but according to the FAQ and your comment above, I would lose the 4 extra points past the 16 I need to qualify. So am I better off booking an S fare on one of the middle legs (HKG-SYD or SYD-HKG, I need CDC at LHR both ways) and upgrading with miles to get a G fare? This should earn me 18 tier points - losing two still, but costing less and losing less. Presumably I would still be able to use the lounges at HGK or SYD on a G fare?

OR, is there a big fly in the ointment here, and I would only get the lowest fare tier points for each sector, i.e. 4 x 3 (PE) = 12?[?]

First, the good news, Andrew: There is no problem with CH/lounge access if you are travelling in UC on either a revenue or award ticket. And your understanding of the TPs for is correct - you would get 18 tier points for doing it as you describe.

But then, the bad news: If you split the trip up as you suggest, it will cost you a hell of a lot more. A 'D' LHR-SYD rtn in Dec is £3044 (+ charges), compared with £2982 for 'D' LHR-HKG, and you then need to add on the HKG-SYD-HKG sectors. The cheapest 'S' return on that route is £876 (and it would actually cost you more than that, because you'd have to add the extra for a 'Z' inbound to HKG (and the 20K FC miles for an uprade to G). You'd therefore be paying a lot extra for two less TPs.

Probably better to bite the bullet and lose a few tier points!

I had a further thought as I posted a moment ago: If you grab one of the cheap(ish) PE fares to the US in the current sale, and fly the route before going to Aus, you'll get 6 TPs for £709 all-in. That would mean you would qualify for Gold on the outbound flight to SYD, and the return flight would get you 10 TPs towards Gold renewal.

Well, I called premiere about this trip a couple of weeks ago, asking for an all Z class fare except for the return HKG-LHR, and was quoted £3040, which is as low as it gets this time of year I think. I agree you can't do this online, but the premiere team can, and should be able to give a good price. I'll check and post back!


No time to do the US trip infortunately, otherwise nice idea!

So my FC statement says '28 Dec 2005 Congratulations, and welcome to the Flying Club Gold!'

Now I understand that if I want to renew Gold I need 30 TPs before 31Dec2006. Can I continue to use the benefits of my status (50% bonus and CH/Revivals access) until 31Jan2007?
