Birthday Upgrade

Do airlines check if you are flying on your birthday and upgrade you? Has anyone tried that at the airport?

I'm unfortunately flying to SFO on my 40th for business and it would be nice to get upgraded:D...no, I don't want the crew to come to my seat with a cake and sing Happy Birthday[V]

It didn't happen on mine or mrs jags 40th,or any of the other 15 odd birthdays I have been up in the air, however BA were kind enough to seat us in First class last Sunday on our wedding annivesary, but we had the advantage of F tickets:D

Had it happen on BA a loooong time ago, but nowadays op-ups are restricted as much as possible, so i wouldnt count on it. Given the numbers of passengers flying im sure there would be several birthdays each day for airlines to contend with.

Thanks,
Sarah

And given how impossible hard it is to get a reward seat at the moment, I would be surprised if there were any op-ups going!

You could always pre-order a cake and a couple of bottles of fizz from retail therapy, crew will serve it to you in UC flutes and sometimes with UC nibbles as well.

Its my Birthday this Saturday and i've spent 20k miles upgrading from Premium to UC. I'm flying on my own so champers and a cake may be a little self indulgent!

There's nothing wrong with a little bit of self indulgence :D

I think though, paying the extra fare or using your 20K miles is the only way to guarantee an upgrade on your birthday..

Go for it! And ask the Crew to lead all the passengers in a chorus of Happy Birthday. I would, but thats just me. :D

If you go here you can download FF2, probably will have to unistall FF1 first though (although ISTBC on this)

Hey VFORCE, "what do you want for nothing when something important happens?"
Seems like a sign of the times, "WANT WANT"
It is people like you that make all the queues at check in.
Just accept the fact that you are a year older and keep quiet.

Not by me - It is certainly what I had to do.

Now to Richard's post. Who is microsoft? What do they do - an alternative to Viagra without the embarrassing side effects? ;)

A few years ago I flew United from LHR to DEN on my birthday & I left the aircraft with 2 UA carrier bags full of alcoholic beverages courtesy of the crew / drinks cart. Was quite a good skiing holiday, as I did not need to purchase any liquor for nightcaps as the UA crew had kindly donated a lot on my birthday. (NB: This happened pre 9/11, when the US carriers still gave away free drink even if you were "down the back" - as we were on the day in question).

Thanks
James

When we were on a delayed flight home from MCO to MAN (following hurricane frances) the check in agent spotted it was my husbands birthday and we were upgraded to PE. Yippee!!

What also made it better was it was a plane with VPORT, so not did I get rather excited about being able to pause a film when I needed the loo but I got to have a sneak peak at UC too [^]
