but on the last page somone has posted a rumour that Virgin Nigeria is being scrapped and that PVG is being scrapped from next year.

Now I don't know about the PVG rumour but the one about Virgin Nigeria has been posted by the same person who said that the PHC flights were being cancelled.

Has anyone else heard these rumours?

I think the main thing to remember about any airline is that it is a business first and foremost, and it needs to make money in order to survive.

Prudence therefore requires that loss-making routes are modified or cut completely, to ensure longer-term survival of the company, and to divert limited resources, such as aircraft and crew, to places they can be put to better use (this may even involve wet or dry leasing aircraft to a competitor, and leasing out slots, rather than using them yourself!).

I'd prefer VS to concentrate on it's strengths, rather than overstretching itself, and if the loss of a new but underperforming route means that some elements that have been previously cut-back can later be restored on the remaining core routes, then I'd probably be supportive.

There are other indicators besides growth of a successful company, such as customer satisfaction, and growth at all costs is actually quite dangerous.

I do LHR-PVG-LHR 7-8 times a year. The competition is getting very strong now, with BA offering a lot of discount fares all the time.

But most of the VS flights I was on are pretty full in both directions. In particular, PE always very full (except Christmas day last year, only me and 2 others there), and I've seen VS have to upgrade PE passengers to UC few times.

You can argue that UC is not making enough money for VS on that route, but the amount of traffic on this route is keep growing up.

Stop over Hong Kong is always been seem as a nice option, but if you have business in north or east parts of China, it is a big pain to go through Hong Kong - 13 hours plus 2/3 hours transit flight, and it is very difficult to find connection flight after 5pm when you landed in HKG. Stay overnight is quite expensive, plus the hassle travel to the city, check in/out the hotel.

I don't believe the PVG route is losing money for VS, so keep going!

I find it hard to be. read your own title. RUMORS! unless it can be backed with a reliable source thats all it is. A rumor.

Rumours of the imminent demise of the Shanghai route have been around about as long as the route itself! The truth is the passenger loads are respectable and we carry a lot of cargo on this route so I can't see it disappearing anytime soon.

IF Virgin Nigeria is scrapped we can look forward to the return of G-VBUS, G-VSUN and G-VAEL

I think my employer alone is buying at least 100 seats on this route every year (some people prefer to travel with BA), and we are reviewing our travel policy which may allow everyone travel in Upper Class from next year. And guess what, I am a strong supporter for this policy change!

PVG is the biggest cargo handling airport in China, about3 times more than PEK. No wondering my VS flights have been delayed few times in PVG due to cargo loading, good business VS.

I think you'll find the A343's coming back next year. The VK setup is better suited to B767's & that's what they'll get.

I agree with others, I've never been on this flight and had an empty seat next to me... Always full these days, even in UC on my last return.
