V-Flyer

After much debate the flights for the summer jolly are booked (SYD via a stop off in HKG for a few days) My only dilemma is which seats as I've not flown upper on a 346. Seat maps don't seem to be that much help and having trawled the search function I'm really no clearer as to the best place to sit .
I've booked 12G and 12K for the whole journey for Mr DL and I, but would be grateful for any personal opinions.According to premier the bassinet (should it be needed)is somewhere around row 8 and I didn't want to be too near the bar (although I may well be propping it up at some point ) or the IFBT. Or the toilets. Picky or what? Being short, I struggle to converse with Mr DL if we're sitting adjacent to each other, so I've opted for seats where we can see each other.Could I do better?

Well, I've had 12K to SYD and I would unreservedly recommend 2K and 3K, if you can get them. What I said in another thread (here)was:

The whole UC bit was great (apart from the amenity kitswhich, according to the FSM on the HKG-SYD leg, are likely to be changed again before long). FWIW, I'd offer a couple of bits of advice. First, bearing in mind that most of the 20 or so hours you'll in flight are in darkness, you'll want a seat you're comfortable and can sleep in. My suggestion would be to go on the right side of the aircraft, at the front, so you are looking at the back of the middle seats. Seats 2-6K would be great, if you can get them. Secondly, set yourself up to arrive in Sydney at 6am from the start. I left LHR having eaten in the CH, and slept shortly after taking off for 5 hours or so. I then had 'a day' awake and watching films/reading/using the bar before arriving at HKG at c 5pm. I treated the second leg as a 'night', eating shortly after take-off and sleeping for the second half of the 9 hour flight, so it felt right to be at Sydney early morning. Take a change of clothes and grab a shower at both HKG and on arrival at Sydney (if you're able - I used the Virgin Blue lounge as I was flying on to Cairns). Result - no jet lag!

Aer John and I were in 11 and 12A so we were facing the wall. One of them - and I can't remember which, does not have good views out of the window as it is slightly behind you. Aer John will be able to tell you more clearly as I am on the threshold of my dotage and can remember things like sweet rationing but not what I had for lunch yesterday

Personally I do not like to be facing the wall on the A346, although many do. I find it a trifle claustrophobic but then as far as I am concerned the 747 rules!!

Would the toilet in front of 2K much of a problem regarding noise and traffic?

I've had 2K on two flights (not to SYD) in the past, and I didn't have any problem with noise (the toilet is a little further from the seat than it appears on the seating plan), or traffic. The extra space and privacy works for me and there actually seemed to be very few people traversing the aisle up there - YMMV. I've got the seat bagged for both of my next two UC flights and, if I change my mind about it, I'll be sure to let everyone know!

I flew LHR-HKG in 4K and then HKG-SYD in 5K two weeks ago and I thought both were great - in fact, as other posters have mentioned, the block of seats on right-hand side at front are nice and quiet which is invaluable on such long flights.
