O.k here is my guess on the new routes.....24/4 start date for daily ORD, 27/4 start date for 4 x weekly LGW/BOS...yes you heard right!! How good will that be? BGI reducing form 7 weekly to 6 weekly...GLA-MCO is now no longer shared with MAN but a full load from GLA..aircraft positioning from MAN empty...mmhh what else? Am I right or am I right? [:w]

I have split this post away from the Bahamas thread into its own discussion.
Speculation about new routes and 'wish lists' are a frequent subject on the board, and are part of what makes it interesting.

I like the persistence of the ORD rumour and sincerely hope that Gpik's speculation is accurate here.

Its great when the company starts to announce new routes. I was told by two seperate people in management roles in the company on two seperate flights. Im particularly pleased that GLA seems to be showing strong forward boookings to warrant a dedicated flight..albeit only 6 times in the summer season but its a start!
Recruitment is such that we are going to have two groups of 24 initial cabin crew tarining courses every week from the first week in Jan, this is due to a shortfall in crewing with regards to the JAR ops 900hour a year rule but also for significant expansion....2nd HKG is the next one...tho that is a wish rather than a definate by me [n]

Gpik, you seem very specific with some of your dates and info, is this just your guess or is this maybe some grapevine info you are passing onto us?
I heard the GLA news a few days ago, interesting that it is no longer a split with MAN, the loads must be looking positive.

New seasonal route starting next year. It was announced on
Virgin Holidays so not surprising that many of did not catch on till late in the day, though one of our kindly staffers gave us the heads up
here .
Personally, i am waiting for the ORD announcement. These always come in two's so i was hoping for YYZ too.
Thanks,
Sarah

ORD gets my vote and I can see the second HKG returning in the not too distant future.[:?]
If we're wishing for stuff, I'll go for a combined Doha/Bahrain flight and Inchon in S.Korea:D

ORD is so on my list [y] [y]
Any signs of any VS activity at YYZ [:?] I know VS still hold an operating licence to fly there and SRB wants it back on his list [:w]

Here's a bit more speculation for 2007:-
Barbados to change from B747 to A340
2nd HKG to commence in November

I'm going to guess that as more a340-600s move into the fleet, A343s will appear at LGW more often

My guess is that VS will drop JFK and move all of their daily flights from there to EWR. It's the most sensible thing to do in my opinion...

After touting up the JFK CH, I wonder if that would be a serious option. They'd have to put one in at EWR. The cost of dumping one/constructing another would be significant.
After talking to others about CHs liked/not so well liked, JFK's CH is better than the terminal, but the open plan is not a winner for many. If a move to EWR is done, I hope VS takes the noise/privacy complaints to heart and drops the open plan.
Although I'd love to see SEA (one time GJ and I agree[:0]), I would like to see YVR, even as a seasonal. I know the cruise industry wouldn't mind - lots of people sail out of Vancouver to Alaska every year. Lots of people also ski, as well. VH would have a built-in base for sales.
Less than four years to 2010 Vancouver!

I think Nick (VS-EWR) was speaking tongue in cheek. You see he has this thing about EWR - I wouldn't listen to him though, he's clearly mad.[}:)];)
Also, there is a CH at EWR already.
VS.
BTW, I do love the staff at EWR and the VS018.

Well, I wouldn't mind spending some time down-route in MEL! But can't see this route opening in the near future. Shame.
ORD sounds good, did we fly there before September 2001?

Yeh ORD was served witha 343- the flight even featured in Jermery Clarksons programme round 2000 about the Greatest inventions or something- it was in relation to fly by wire and the aircraft being able to land itself at LHR...saw it the other day on UKTV. [|:)]
YYZ and ORD are a must- I would love to see us back there. Although UK-YYZ has a lot more competition these days with BA, AC, Zoom and now flyglobespan from the regions.
I still think another VH destination will be brought in- perhaps somewhere in Thailand. Maldives would be nice but don't know what the demand is and also i would expect them to wait and see what happens with Mauritus first.
Remember also that VS have the rights to fly to Beijing and Rio.
And of course there are all those BD flights from MAN that we will get with the take over. [:w]
Jetstreamer- I guess you mean a 343 to BGI. Although I have been notcing that a 346 is making the BGI run a lot lately.

Maybe as more 346 arrive, some 343's will migrate to LGW?[:?]

Also it is likely the A343's that are currently being used by VK will be returning to VS and I would imagine they would go to LGW/MAN

Having lived in Chicago for a few months during the winter period, I can see where you're coming from GJ - but other airlines seem to manage and perhaps it could be a seasonal service or see a decreased number of flights over the winter, lessening the problem.[:?]

What are VK using then for long haul? My understanding was the a/c would eventually be switched onto Nigerian registrations at the end of the lease.

I hear you on the "other carrier" point -- it seems like they do make a go of it. And you're probably right about the seasonal option. I just wish if VS were "in it" they were in it all the way and ran year-round out of ORD. That would help engender a lot more brand loyalty from Midwesterners and others who feed into ORD from airports distant.
Yes, I suppose if you're based at ORD and want the miles, it isn't suitable to have to collect for only half the year with a carrier; it would be a bit of a lost cause.
