What does the term 'UK Units' on the side of beer bought in the UK and served on VS flights mean?

Try here, Ben ;)

What's a unit?

A UK unit is 10ml or 8 grams of pure alcohol. The number of units in a drink depends on what you're drinking - how strong it is and how much there is. You may have seen examples of drinks that contain one unit, but these examples are often out of date, for instance....

And don't forget the guidelines are about 800 units per week for men and 600 for women ;) so that leaves plenty of room for festive cheer [}:)]

No, no, no! Emphasising its pro-binge drinking stance, the Government has announced a 100 unit/person Christmas bonus which will be tax free [y] So the allowances are much higher than you say.

Naturally this all ignores the fact that a lot of wines are no longer 12% by vol and a lot of beers aren't 4%.

In fact, seeing as wine is made from grapes each glass presumably counts as one of your "5 a day" of fruit and vegetables [y].
