I see scones are back on the menu - with the proper sides! Yum. [y]

And the rest of the lunch menu, at least, looks more edible than we had dreaded last month! ISTBC after the TRs come in, of course...

Now, now, you'll give everyone the idea that all US flyers are picky!

I really do think it reads better than we were prepared to suffer. Doesn't mean I'm giving it a full across-the-board thumbs-up, though. Why? Well, half the menu's out for me, too. Don't do shellfish, cooked broccoli, beets, or 'shrooms. I can get all the salmon and blackberries I want in Seattle. So that leaves the pasty, cheese, and rhubarb, and the scone. A quite balanced diet! [ii]

I ate that on VS601 on Friday and it was very very nice - can recommend it!

No 'shrooms? What about the blue and yellow purple pills?

I cannot do anything with onions,spinach,veggies in general and apple pie makes me want to [:$] so im pretty much done for this menu[:#].I can understand the whole best of British theme, but VS should remember that they don«t only serve British pax, oh well seems everyone likes something on there, so I will just ask for something from Y.

Just as a side note it struck me as kind of funny that I can go down to my local supermarket, spend 8 bucks on a frozen meal from Boston Market, throw it in the microwave for 3 mins and have a fare better meal than VS (or BA) offers, sad state of affairs.

For all thoughs criticising the menu, surely all/most of you can manage "Welsh Rarebit"?

Which, for those who don't know or misread it as Welsh Rabbit it is actually Cheese on Toast with some worcestershire sauce and mustard. hmmmm. Very tasty!

Dave, no onions, spinach, veggies (obviously excluding cheese!)

Anyone who hasn't tried should give it a go!

Sorry, but it strikes me as rather lacking in imagination - "beef, fish, or vegetarian, sir?" - not exactly classic J fare, is it? Oh for the days of a decent fillet steak (medium rare)... Or even a poached chicken breast. At least they've got proper scones back, so let us all be thankful for small mercies.

Not a great beef or fish lover myself so I'm a bit stuck with this menu. However, I'll probably do what I did on my last UC flight from Mia in November and ask for the chicken dish they were serving in Econ. That really threw them!

Why VS do you insist on ensuring that you exclude pax by having the whole menu themed? Why can't there be a selection with say one "Best of British" item for each course?[V][V][V]

Now, that's an idea I'll second with complete joy!

The very first thing I do when I get home is make a big salad or go for a crudites platter, as I seem to be raw veggie-starved on most flights. If not raw veggies, it's beef. Plain, good 'ol beef. No fancy froufrou, no artsy sauces, no anything but a nice slab of cooked beast. Even if it clucks, I'll welcome it. Plain. No gravy.

Some of us just want meat and veggies, not the fancy stuff. If it's being plated to order, can't it be carted that way by SkyChefs or whomever? Catering, please read this thread and hear us! Please![i]

I'm not necessarily against the "fancy stuff" but I can't stand the way we have these, what I can only describe as, "food regimes" forced upon all pax in UC.

Well it was on VS 19 today and im sorry to say I was right, tried it, sent it back and got meal from PE, it seemed about a 50/50 split on pax that liked it and pax that didn't.

Boo. I guess that means I'd better make sure I have beef jerky, carrot sticks, and almonds in my carry-on.

Don't get me wrong, but I kind of save the Balance bars and the above nosh for bad weather and missed connections in the middle of nowhere.

Cheese (hot or cold), pasty, and scone... here we come! Y's going to get either a big surprise or go hungry if we eat all the Y meals...

Well what sucked was they had the wrong menus loaded for W/Y, I got myself in a good mood looking forward to a curry, only for the FA to comeback and tell me of the horrible error, so it was sausage and mash time [:$][:#] and a few slices of cheese on toast [n]

Make that double the beef jerky, carrot sticks, and almonds. I'd better have some to share!

(And, at the risk of incurring your considerable ire if we make you remember your CH-not experience as per your TR, I shall warn everyone not to ask you why you didn't eat a burger before your flight! Go read the TR if you want to know)

Are Jerky excluding from the meet importation ban by pax? Or will you eat it all on the plane?

You know, I've never been able to determine that. I usually eat it [:I]). It's been taken away once at Customs, and missed or ignored at least 4 times in the last two years. I usually take small packages and toss the wrappers once they're empty. I also pick brands which have the 'cleared for importation' marks on them. Maybe that's the difference (cleared for importation, unopened packages).

If anyone has a link to the actual regulations, I for one would welcome it!

Just like Vegas the culinary scene has improved a great deal in the last decade.

GJ...Nacho Libre looked like a good movie as well, there re times the flowery penmanship of the VS copywrite people is far better than the results.

Of course im now waiting for someone to back me up on this...hint hint...

With respect, I believe it now very much IS renowned for its culinary offerings. There are cutting edge chefs all over London and beyond. It's one of the reasons I travel to Blighty with such joy in my heart (and three stomachs).

British chefs are often good, but traditional British food isn't necessarily;)
