MFU Upgrades - Which Baggage allowances?

Hello all,

I am doing a MFU buying economy and upgrading to UC to San Fran, then back in PE from Vegas.

I am assuming I get the UC and PE baggage allowances, I asked Virgin and they said this was true but she seemed very unsure!

MFU?

Yes you receive all the privileges of the class that you've upgraded to, except mileage earning.

What's not always clear are your baggage allowances on a single ticketed itinerary. This can be particularly interesting to negotiate on RTW trips where part of the journey would normally be based on weight, and another part based on the number of pieces.

You get the baggage allowance for the class you are travelling in. In your case UCS allowance outbound and PE allowance Inbound.

Thanks, just called to book, they said that the outbound flight 'drives' the inbound allowance, so we actually get 3x32kg both ways!

Good result for you then, jimbob.

BUT, hold hard, what if you travel economy out and upper back. Does that mean you are only entitled to economy baggage allowance both ways?

Unfair I cry [n]

Hi jimbob
I'd be very surprised if this was the case and wouldn't like to test the theory at LAS with 3x32kg for PE and then be stung for lots of cash.Mind you if you've had a good run in Vegas you probably won't care:D.Don't know if you're flying up from SFO to LAS but if you are(and not in domestic first) you will have a piece (usually 2 pieces) AND weight restriction (usually 21/23kg max per bag) on the internal flights regardless of which class you've flown VS in .I believe the majority of US carriers have the same luggage allowances and from my own personal experience they can be pretty unforgiving with "excess baggage"[:0][:0].

the internal carriers, such as U.S. Air, accept whatever weight allowence you have with Virgin, as long as you booked the whole trip through VS. BTW, as far as being strict, have you seen what some people take on the internal flights as hand luggage, 2 to 3 peices is the norm from my experience[:0]

This was what I had also been lead to believe when transitting with partner airlines- unfortunately the ground staff at LAS weren't of the same opinion[}:)]Like you say though the hand luggage is vast and causes no consternation whatsoever at check in.They don't seem too bothered about what goes in the cabin (Mr DL was sat next to a nice black labrador and there was a cat in a carrier a few rows behind us:D).
