Do US Airways flights still earn FC credit?

Concerning my recent experience with US Airways / Virgin Flying club:
I checked with FC yesterday to confirm that my upcoming trip in January on US Air would earn miles/points on FC. They responded by email that yes, they would be credited as per the Virgin website.
However, I've tried (twice) to call US Airways and get them to enter my Virgin FC number against my upcoming US flight, and both times I got the response that "US Airways is not affiliated with Virgin Atlantic's mileage program", and so they couldn't take my FC number for credit.
So my question is: How can I get credit for the US Airways flights if they won't take my FC number? (I guess it would be a manual transaction) Has anyone actually flown US Airways recently and gotten credit on Virgin?
Thanks
