EWR-LHR/VS 18 Question

Hi all

I'm flying EWR to LHR this week on VS18 and am confused about what aircraft I will be on for the trip. On the one hand it is listed
as an A340-600 route but when I actually plug in the flight number
into the 'which aircraft' tool it comes up as an A343.

Can anyone help clear up my confusion?

VS often swap aircraft around depending on loadings and other factors like aircraft maintenance, and some flights, like the BOS, get a real mix of aicraft.

For example, the Joburg flights are usually flown on the 744 during December/January, but are 346s the rest of the year. The MIA flights are usually Airbus in the summer, but 744 in the winter.

The VS17/18 seems to have been flown by a 343 for most of the winter flying programme, but if the seat map on the VS site is showing a 346, it's quite likely that the 346 has been planned for your actual flight.

Remember, there's only five 343s currently flying for VS out of LHR, as opposed to a lot more 346s, so it's possible that a 346 will be substituted if a 343 is down for maintenance or other reasons.

I always go on what the VS Seat Map says. My last trip started out as an 346, but the seat map changed to a 747 one day, and that was the plane we got.
