We re off on a Virgin Holiday to NY in Feb. My good lady wants to go to Macy's for a meal as we are only staying a few blocks away and the meal we had at the Macy's in San Fran was spot on.
Does any one know what the restaurant is and whats like !!!!
Can any one else recommend good places to eat out there...
Many thanks

There is a list of what eateries are in Macy's on this website. I must say however with so many nice cafe's/restaurants etc in New York I would not consider eating here as a lot of them are chains and there much better options available to you.

If you have a look at this thread that discussed a similar topic a little while ago it should give you some ideas, including one of my favs Blue Fin in Times Square.

Whenever anyone talks about New York I always think of the scene from Gremlins 2 were they all start to sing in the lobby.

What kind of food are you looking for? The Cowgirl Hall of Fame is a fantastic TexMex type place - one of the best places in Manhattan to get Margaritas too. You can get the full menu sat at the bar too which is always good fun - great atmosphere and HUGE portions.

Babbo is one of the trendiest restaurants to go to at the moment, an amazing Italian. Books are required ASAP (may be a bit late unless your lucky), but you can always turn up on the night and wait for one of the five unreserved tables or again sit at the bar. Its very much like the film Dinner Rush.

Thanks for such a speedy response !!!!

We are looking for general type restaurants and nothing to posh where you need to get dressed up !!!!

A nice Italian would be great !!!

Remember, tourists at places like Macys and Bloomingdales can get a discount card from the Visitor Centre, just take photo ID and you can pick up an 11% (I think) discount off most purchases.

It's the visitor centre inside each store. You have to get a card when you go in, and can be valid for just one day, or a few days. Here's the info for Macy's. It means you'll pay slightly less than the sticker price, as sales tax isn't included in the price advertised, so don't go crazy thinking you'll save 11% off the price tag!

Hi Newboy

Was it the Cheesecake Factory that you went to in Macy's in San Francisco? Unfortunately there isn't a Cheesecake Factoryone in New York City. However, we really enjoyed Carmines - they serve massive portions, so you'll need to share!

Here's their website: http://www.carminesnyc.com/

Try Grimaldis just over the Brooklyn Bridge, small, family run Pizza Restaurant, atmosphere is great inside. Then afterwards walk back over the Brooklyn Bridge and just take in the view!

For Lunch go to one of the many deli's, my favourite being Katz deli on the lower east side (where the 'when Harry met Sally' scene was filmed) - The Carnegie deli is also good

For cheesecake look no further than Juniors in Grand Central Station

One really great thing to do is the 'tenament museum and tour' again on the lower east side..... see how New Yorkers lived whilst the city was in it's infancy

Have fun and enjoy one of the most exciting cities in the world
