I have been flying back and forward to the states since 1995 with Virgin and just found you so Hello
Simple question from a simple soul.
Why do checkin staff call people up to the gate when we are waiting to board, is it upgrades??????.
If so I want one, how do I get one.
Happy New Year all

Sometimes it is upgrades, sometimes it is just last minute moves around the same cabin (say, for instance, so a family can sit together), sometimes it is something as mundane as they left their passport at check in.
As for *how* to get an upgrade, well, there's been much written about that previously - not least in these forums! The best tip is to get a Flying Club Gold card. It does wonders for your 'upgrade priority'!

If there are operational opportunity, agents at the gate always has a list.
I've seen them before with passengers' name, current seat and updated seat location. If people be called to check that list, then yes, they are been upgraded in that occasion.
Not easy to get onto that list, check the Q&A session on this website on how to get upgraded.

We got and upgrade or kind of one from PE to the seats behind UC I actually liked PE better as it's like a clubhouse upstairs on a 747.
