Hello all,

I've just checked in online for a flight tomorrow in PE, am in row 19, but have heard speak of Row 18 having extra leg room due to it being on a bulkhead, is it worth when getting to the airport to ask if we can be moved to row 18?

Im my opinion yes, it gives you a bit extra leg room (as long as your in the A/C, H/K, you have nobody infront to recline on you and compared to Row 19 you have 2 windows instead on 1. Its just a personal preference but I know quite a few other V-Flyers like Row 18 too!!

thanks Neil, and am I right in thinking you can only get this at the airport.. so it's a case of going to the PE check in or bag drop and asking if we can swap into 18?

Yes you can only move to Row 18 at the airport, you can do it at either the PE desk or the Bag Drop so whatever queue is shortest. If you are very early then Row 18 might still be blocked off, but if you ask them they will make a call and get it unblocked (we've done this a couple of times no problems.)

The only thing I would say is remember the seats are not going to be as wide due to the IFE screen stowing in the arm rest and there is no under seat storage during take off and landing.

Had 18E back from Boston last year. I think I had less legroom than non bulk head seat but more knee room. A C H & K appeared to have more leg room. I'm 6'3" and wouldn't choose 18 E F or G again

Totally agree, the middle 3 seats in Row 18 do not seem to have the same room as the A/C & H/K ones do (wonder if any VS CC can confirm if this is the case or not?) and as you can't put your feet under the seat infront then it does feel like you have less room than the other PE rows.

All 7 seats in row 18 can be prebooked by families with infants and small children so you may find that they are unavailable regardless of how early you arrive.

Also if downgrades are required, Row 18 is normally reserved for the grumpy UC passengers who are forced towards the back. This is fairly rare though.

On my flight from JFK last week check in refused to allocate me and my wife row 18. she said that it was reserved for families with small children and could only be given out once all PE passengers had checked in. i argued that once every PE passenger had checked in it would be to late to allocate me this row as they would surely have to give them to someone for everyone to be checked in. She wasn't budging at all so we had to settle for row 19. This is the first times its ever happened to me, in the past i've always been told that i can have row 18 but if someone turns up and needs that row for a sky cot i would have to be moved and i've always agreed with this.

I'm not actually the greatest fan of row 18 and would rather go for row 20 due to the lack of a footrest - I couldn't stand those little pouffes.

I prefer row 19 as i like to put my belongings under the seat in front of me.

You shouldn't have an issue getting the row allocated to you unless they are being held for downgrades/assistance pax etc.

Also 18DFG do not have any room and in my opinion are more restrictive as with row you get to put your feet under the seat in front of you.

Spot on Larger, I'm in departures at Heathrow now, and was refuesed Row 18, because it's reserved for familes... apparantly that's always been the case. Rubbish.

Also rude check in girl didn't put PE tags on our cases.... one of the reasons you pay for a premium service is to get these little extras... not the best start to a trip.

Sadly, that is the case. Sadly from my point of view as i don't have children.

VS keep back their bulkhead seats for families, especially seats such as these coveted row 18 window seats - because these are the seats that have the bassinet position for babies.

Some airlines keep their bulkhead seats for their Frequent Flyer's and Elite passengers, and i do wish VS would follow suit with this as a benefit for top tier customers, but i do understand that it isnt exactly fun to have a baby on your lap for 7 hours and they have to be put somewhere. Still, those seat back pockets are rather roomy ...

As is the hold. For info, I have been refused 18 on occasion, but have often found that I can then move into it on Boarding. I do get rather annoyed however when it is refused (what ever airline) and when you board there is not a baby in sight and the family "Shorthouse" sitting in the b/head row.[:(!]

I think you'll find it's 'Mannion', not 'Shorthouse' 'Tis rather roomy in that front row

If you're interested my last TR in PE was from a row 18 point of few. It's on page 7.

I would say around 70% of the time we ask, we are given 18A and C

Now I need to learn how to post links, me thinks![:I]
