VA courtesy calls

As anyone ever had either a courtesy call or maybe a survey call from VA

I just had a phone call asking for my 20 year old son and it definitely wasn't Virgin Holidays although he is a member of both, obviously they wouldn't give me any information. They do have his email address but have our home number listed for telephone contact as he is at University.

Not something I've ever received myself and just curious.

Never had such a call myself, although that doesn't mean that they don't happen of course. Maybe there is a problem with that J fare he booked with your credit card.[}:)]

There is a secion on the VS web site here (you will need to log into your FC account) where you can opt in or out of any communications from VS.

In all the years I've been a FC member, they have never contacted me even though I have checked the box to say it's OK to do so.

My dad had a call from Virgin, trying to get him to sign up for the credit card. Could it have been this?

I've only done one survey for Virgin Atlantic, and it was conducted through http://www.valuedopinions.co.uk (really great site, I've earned hundreds of Amazon vouchers now).
It was for the new premium economy, asking my opinions and such. There was a fair amount of British Airways questions too.

Always suspicious of this kind of activity. After all it was one of the tactics BA used during it's dirty tricks period.

MBNA have a habit of calling you for all sorts of things. I have a note on my account advising nobody to call me as i got so hacked off with the "I notice you have no payment protection ..." calls and so on.

I would ask specifically WHO they are, if they are MBNA they should not be saying they are VS.

Yes he did ask, and it was VA.

I had a message left with my family saying 'Virgin' were trying to call me; it was, in the end, MBNA, who when I asked claimed that they don't say they are MBNA, as they aren't permitted to give away the fact that you have a credit card...

I just received one of these calls too who were after my mother. It is not VS, nor is it MBNA - it is TLC (The Listenign Company) that are working on behalf of MBNA to drive awareness of the credit card. I too found them a little off and rude, had to speak to a supervisor for them to reveal their true identity, and even then they refused to answer the question if they 'were calling in order to promote/upsell the MBA VS credit card'.

I have checked with VS marketing, and they are aware of the activity as they commissioned it. So if you have any issues with it, then let it be known here as I am about to forward this thread ID to them to review.

We had the same phone call for our 20 year old son who, like jilly's son, is also away at university. When quizzed why they wanted to speak to him they were evasive and we told them to call back at Eastertime.
They used only the Virgin name in the call, as though that would get the required response.
Richard, if you have sent this thread ID to VS marketing then good. This sort of cold calling just doesn't fit with the Virgin image, IMO,and can only devalue the brand. Just my twopennorth (sp?).

Funny you should say that, as that is exactly what I told marketing. I expect this kind of tactic from MBNA, but not from Virgin (even if it is a company working on their behalf). They must be really desperate to push the card is all I can say.

I got a phone call 2 weeks ago from some marketing company asking for 2 hours of my time. In exchange, I would get £50. They wanted to talk to people who travel on VS for business and personal reasons.

Was interested in going, but was out of town over the 2 nights they were asking for.

Anyone else get this????

Over 5 day's they attemted to call me 10 times, 4 times when i answered nobody spoke to me. On the 10th attempt they got both barrels as they had been calling on my mobile & even commented that my home number was TPS. I find this type of marketing VERY annoying!!!!!

They have called again asking for my son saying they were Virgin Atlantic, this time I told him that he didn't want a credit card - his reply was 'how do you know it's about that' and he became very rude and defensive.

I took down the number and called them back, there is an ansaphone on there and it was the people Richard referred to. There is an option to opt out of their calls.

Even though VA are aware of these calls, I am disgusted if they allow them to announce that they are VA when calling as they are obviously not.
