Pre-booking seats on non-Virgin flights

We've booked a holiday with VH to Hawaii/Las Vegas this summer, flying with Virgin Atlantic, Hawaiian Airlines and United.

We've pre-booked our seats on Virgin Atlantic, but when we enquired about doing this on the other airlines we were told that we can't. Is this true and if so, is there a way around this, e.g. by phoning up the other airlines direct? (When we booked a RTW trip with Thomas Cook they phoned the airlines on our behalf to pre-book seats, so it seems strange that VH are saying that we can't do it, full stop...)

Thanks in advance.

I think they are trying to say they won't do it for you...[:(]

If you call Hawaiian and United direct yourself you will be able to request your favoured seating...... :D

They cannot ( ISTBC) book seats on aother airlines - but as you say yourself - the easiest way is to call the airlines directly and book with them or use their web sites. Once the booking is made then it will appear in their system and then you can book them.

V Hols should be able to do this for you (but it will only on a request basis with the airline in question).

It worth remembering that many airlines still dont pre-allocate seats until the day of departure and most booking agents dont have access to airline seat maps.

Thanks for your responses. Does anyone know how I get the booking reference details for the other airlines or would they accept my Virgin Holidays reference number if I ring them?

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to David from Virgin Holidays, who saw this post and sorted out my seat reservations for me.

What excellent customer service - I'm very impressed! [y]

How nice! [^]

I thought they should be able to at least request the seats. Hope you got the seats you wanted!
