I think its great that Freeway can tell us which ACTUAL aircraft we are gonna be on - but why cant we all learn how to find out??

Give a man a fish a nd you feed him for a meal, teach a man to fish and you feed him for life!!!

Yes - very erudite for this time of day but there you go!!!!

Freeway - its over to you!!

freeway is a VS staffer who has access to systems that the rest of us don't.

The which aircraft feature of the boards:

http://www.v-flyer.com/chance.asp

will tell you historically which aircraft has been used, but that is the best we can do.

I think the info freeway provides is brilliant, but you have to remember that it is always subject to change - aircraft going tech or being delayed will result in the scheduled plane changing (for better or worse;) )

Does Freeway play the role of "The Fat Controller" ( in the nicest possible sense) deciding which aircraft goes to where and which get their refits??? Someone somewhere must do this job?

And out of interest why is this information not available publicly? what reason is there to hide it. In 5th November I am on the 601 to JBurg - the VS site and seat management section currently shows a 744 - but on the V-Flyer site it shows no 744's having been used on this route - well not in the last 3 months anyway. - my question ( and Freeway could kindly tell me exactly which plane if he/she has time) how far in advance are planes allocated to routes?

So does that mean that my flight to SA has a provisional 744 as the aircraft type and 2 weeks ahead of the flying date this gets firmed up?

Oh and thanks for the speedy replies ( didnt mean to call you fat either!!! sorry!!!)

Hello

Was going to ask the same, you'll get fed up of this.
LHR - SFO 24/09/04 VS19
SFO - LHR 29/09/04 VS20

If its too far ahead, no worries. Can get an idea on the v-flyer tool.

Cheers!

Dean

The JNB flight uses a 343 in the UK's summer (the low season for RSA) but uses the 747 in busy periods. That's why you can see a 343 in the What's my chance section.

I would speculate that the information is not publicly available as then they don't need to have their legal department draw up all sorts of disclaimers about how you may not get the aircraft they indicated due to operational reasons etc. Making the info available would satisfy a few users (ourselves included) but would leave themselves open to a PR nightmare if anybody treated the information as anything other than indicational and became vociferous.

Just my thoughts.... IANAVSB ;)

I think it is fantastic that Virgin Staff, such as Freeway (and others), take the time to read and contribute to this forum - it's really appreciated :)
