Now if someone is traveling in PE in the near future and would be most grateful for an OPUP.Would it be wiser to get to check-in early or check-in online[?]:D

Great news. Will look forward to hearing how people find it.

Re OPUPs, didn't someone recently post that most are 'pre-appoved' so the on-line check-in system should recognise you and 'promote' you accordingly.

I presume there will be a 'fast bag drop' desk at most airports - Like a moth to a bright light, I'm still drawn to the Upper Class carpet at check-in though :D - hope we can still check-in at the normal desks as well :)

Do anyone know if self-service check-in is going to be launched tomorrow as well [?]

I can never decide which to go for when both are offered!!!!

Regards

If it works anything like the BA OLCI, it won't stop people getting op-ups - in fact many on the FT forum say OLCI is a good thing because it gives them plenty of advance notice that you will be travelling.

On a related note - I expect this will tie in with the "Your flights" part of the VS site? I've not had any success trying to access my flight on there. I have a six-letter code, which i think is the e-ticket reference, or do I need to obtain a different code? The flights were booked by someone else through the Amex Plat Travel Service, and the booking is for him and me, for travel on 22nd Aug. Any pointers gratefully received!:D

As my booking was made direct with VS and I was logged on when I made the booking online, my FC number was automatically added to the booking, now I just have to click on a link on the 'My Flights' page to view the details.

When I had a reward booking again made direct with VS I did need to enter the 6 digit booking reference, surname, flight number and date of travel- on entering the e-ticket number my flight was never found.

You might need to check that Amex have added both FC numbers to the booking.

Regards

The current thinking seems to be - it doesn't matter. The vast majority of OPUPs are apparently decided before the day of travel.

Any last minute (at the gate) changes will be done just prior to boarding so the time of check in may be irrelevant.

Thoughts?

Nick

ah The infamous "Will Mr smith make himself known to the desk?" at the gate :-)

Thanks for the advice. I know for a fact that the person who booked it has his FC number on there, but didn't know mine at the time, so mine isn't. However - he also can't access the flight when logs into the VS site. Sounds like i might need to ring FC and get my number on there - i faintly recall someone saying that just speaking to FC about a booking made it accessible online!

If I am connecting through heathrow, could I check in online, and drop luggage off at the flight connection centre?

I recently flew to ST Lucia on 27/06/04 for 2 weeks VH, flying PE each way, as I live in Manchester I Flew down afternoon of 26/06/04, stayed at the Le Meridien hotel connected to LGW, so took advantage of twilight check in evening of 26/06/04 at 8:00pm, had a real miserable check in girl, must have been a long day!, checked in on PE and got the seats I pre-booked months ago (even though she insisted Virgin didn't have to give them to me, was their choice, all I said was I pre-booked seats using online system when she looked at seat allocation!).

Turned up at the gate 1 hour before take off, me and the wife sat down as we were upstairs anyways and waited till the queue had gone down before joining the line 20 mins before take off, then got our names called out, went to the gate desk where we were told we were both being upgraded to full UC service in seats 8A & 8C, they just crossed out seat allocation on boarding card and wrote on new seat numbers, was a very enjoyable flight, even funnier when I looked behind me and SRB happened to be sat there!, he moved to the front row in UC at take off.

Now, I certainly do not think the check in person had us upgraded to full UC, so it must have happened overnight after my check in as nothing was mentioned at checkin, though we do dress 'presentable' for check in and flight, been upgraded a few times with BA so worth the effort I figure [8D]

VS UC is excellent, and i've got a nasty feeling the wife will want UC in the future, so good marketing from VS to tempt us in the future :D

I am a frequent virgin (this is 3rd holiday with VH) and this is my VS first flight since I joined the flying club, so only a red with 0 miles at the time, so I'm wondering why we were chosen for an upgrade, there were 4 empty UC seats and the seats straight behind UC before economy (rows 11 & 12) were completely empty.

Only reason I can think for the upgrade is that VH messed up my booking, and when I got the invoice, the PE upgrade was £200 more than quoted on the phone, I wrote a letter to customer service explaining my surprise at such a mis-quote, they wrote back apologising for the mis-understanding and offerred me a £100 reduction, meeting me halfway, which i accepted and thanked them for assistance, all I can think is they flagged me for an upgrade if available due to the inconvenience I had with booking?, do VH customer services have that clout with VS?

Hmm - 15 minutes until my car arrives to take me to LHR, and the VS site is 'Down for maintenance'. Looks like something is happening, but will it be in time for me to check in...[?]

It looks like either its a bigger change than we thought, or the system has fallen over :-(
Still down at the moment. At least you know with Virgin they will get it right.

It's now up and running with the on line check in available 2-24 hours before your flight.

I think I will still take the red carpet like mitchja.:)
I have not been OPUP many times once on BA at the gate we were very late boarding, 3 of us from Y to J.Then return OPUP IAD last xmas for 3 again on the way out at the gate as we were boarding women just crossed out our PE numbers and put UC ones in & on the way home we were upgraded at check-in.:D:D.Nice when it happens.

Another Online Check-in logistical question. Ag members have the right to use Fast Track even when flying Y or PE. Right now, they get gold stickers when they check in at Upper. How would it work if you checked-in online? Would it be printed on the paper with your boarding card?

Will be v interested to see if the exit rows in PE become available at t - 24hrs. Will be a great incentive to OLCI ASAP:D

I tried the DIY Checkin on VS28 on Sunday
I have impared mobility and even though I requested a lower deck seat the DIY system gave me 77A (not useful)

so I had to recheck at MCO anyway!

Teathing troubles I guess!

Hi Jonathan,

77a is on the main deck, it's a window seat, last row of PE on the port side.

According to Virgin Atlantic website it is not possible to select any exit row seats via on line/DIY check in. They have to be able to see a passengerÕs physical condition before allocating them. Does being overweight, middle aged and going bald rule me out?
