An amazing thought crossed my mind yesterday

I think Virgin America messed up.

I understand the basic concept, I love the product, but they are trying to jump into one of the most competitive markets in the world. The SFO/LAX - NYC is fought over by so many airlines, it keeps the prices and hence the margins very low.

Just a silly thought in case any of the powers that be are reading.

Move down to LAX and start flying into central America. The prices for flights are high, there is next to know completion on many routes, the airlines that do fly have what can only be described as a low to bad product (there are of course exceptions) with the LA area having a huge latino population and a general interest in tourism starting to blossom for central America the market is ripe for the picking.

Yeah, I'm not sure VX made the right decision going for SFO-NYC. We've already seen jetBlue jump on that route shortly after VX was denied by the government so now if VX starts up it will have even more competition to deal with.

Despite their recent problems I'm still a fan of jetBlue ... Virgin are going to find it very difficult in what is an already crowded market.

Thats my point.

Yes their product is a lot better than the rest...but they have no FF base, by not offering VS miles there is no reason for FC members to choose them over DL/CO/US, so why not go after a market that is way under served.

Talking to the crew on my LAX - SJO - LAX flight they say that every flight goes out full, so I am guessing there is demand there.

Right now there is no spare metal for most airlines,VX being the exception, I am just wondering if it may not be a better idea to try a different angle on things should they get by the US government.

If not then set up in Central America and take on Taca and Copa.
