Companion Ticket expiry

I have a companion ticket still to use and the 12 months are up in July. This is because when Amex took over the CC as soon as you reach the target they added the companion flight to my account - which was a PITA. I've already got holiday booked for this year and I'm not planning on going away again until September 2008. Rather than lose it, if I book a flight before the companion runs out, can I then change the booking later on to a flight later in the year [:I]

Just a thought, I'm trying to maximise my miles :)

I think Im right in saying that the companion ticket has to be booked within its 12 month life .... therefore you can change it as many times as you like within the 12 months .. (the travel can take place outside the 12 months) .... however once you are outside the 12 months you cannot re-book ... because that would technically be a cancellation followed by a new booking ...

here is the relevent part of the T's & C's

"4.3.1.3. Each complimentary companion ticket is valid for 12 months from the Gold renewal date. The Flying Club Gold member is required to book the companion reward within this period. However the travel dates do not need to fall within this 12-month period. "

Whilst this relates to a Gold Card companion ticket I think the same applies to the CC version .... Im sure someone will corrrect me if wrong.

Cheers

Mark :D

No, you are right Mark. You need to BOOK the Companion voucher within 12 months, not take the flights you are booking. So you can book your flights during its last month or so of validity for a flight 336 odd days in advance, which somewhat extends its lifespan.

Thanks,
Sarah

I have 2 companion tickets. I clarified the life of each with VA staff today. Each has to be booked within one year of issue & upto a year ahead. One ticket expires for booking on 17th October 2007 so I could make a booking on 16th October 2007 to fly say 15th October 2008.
With regard to the fact I have 2 CC's. I can use both tickets at the same time as long as I book 2 paying fares.
Clear as mud I guess.
plan your next trip!
