Flying Co Tip

Just found out a little wrinkle, as it were, with flying Co compared to Flying Club. I have a flight booked, W outbound and K return. I upgraded the W using flying club miles, but had resigned myself to hoping for PE to be tight for space on the return so that I could do a miles upgrade on the day (remebering K is not upgradable with Flying Club miles normally). However, skimming through the Flying Co terms and conditions I noticed that a K (so long as it is not APEX) is upgradable in flying co.
The same is true for some of the restricted Economy I believe.
So it is pointy end for me both ways [y]

Oh yes, been taking advantage of this one for a while on routes where the K/S difference is ludicrous! One of the advantages of the Co upgrade is the increased flexibility. One of the disadvantages is that it is normally only confirmed on the day BUT it does have priority over other upgrade types. Saying that when we booked our most recent Stateside trip and went K-G the kind lady confirmed the upgrade there and then. Most unusual.
Enjoy the pointy bit.

Yes, the point about unconfirmed upgrades was explained to me. I commented that this was fine as I could see that the flight was wide open. The lady asked how I knew this, I explained about expertflyer.com, and she said she would check herself. A few key types and she said that yes, I was quite right, and that in fact she could confirm it there and then.
The K-S was about £350, which was a bit more than I wanted to pay to be honest, especially as there is not a Club house at the destination airport.

Must be new guidelines - if more open than X then confirm! Cool

Just a little twist to the tale. I actually only had 19500 miles in my FlyCo a/c. However I also had a limo booking for the flights, so canceled that to take me up to 29k, giving me enough for the 20k oneway upgrade.
I then went to the flying club
web pages to check on limo transfers there. I was disappointed to see they have gone up to 12.5k and that they are restricted to the home counties, putting me outside the area, albeit by just 20 miles or so. However I decided to try and book it anyway and see what happened.
A very helpful person has just booked me a limo with 10,000 club miles, and the home counties thing didn't even get mentioned.
My guess is that the cost was increased recently (Anyone confirm?) and that this has not worked into the systems. Not sure about the home counties bit - maybe people on the gold help line can stretch the rules a little?

Moved to Flying Club as seems more appropriate!

Indeed. See Juliet's post
here regarding the changes.
I dont think we are covered in that catchment area either now.
Thanks,
Sarah

Interesting that they can confirm the upgrade in advance in some circumstances. Whenever I have rung up, they have checked availability and said "it looks good" but never offered to confirm it there and then, and I've never thought of asking.
Upgraded a K quite a few times now - a useful wheeze.

Flying co is the name for the corporate loyalty scheme. The company joins and earns miles when it's employees fly. It can then spend the miles on upgrading employees, buying lounge passes, free flights. This thread is saying the rules for upgrading on Flying Co are less demanding, in terms of the type of paid-for ticket you have to hold, than Flying Club. In my case, holding a K ticket I could not upgrade with miles through flying club with out paying cash to change my ticket from booking class K to S. But with my Flying Co miles, I could upgrade without shelling out cash because the rules are more relaxed.
The other part of the thread is that the increased number of miles needed to book a limo through Club has been raised, but that VS's computer systems do not seem to have caught up with the price change. There is also a suggestion that the rules of booking a limo seem to be being relaxed.
As such it is a series of tips for getting more value from your flying Club/Flying Co membership - ie its what the site is really all about - helping each other out.
