Supplementary silver account spend question

Managed to find a return reward flight to HKG in November. Outbound is Economy and return is Upper.

Total cost = 80,000 miles + tax

Now I have 76,180 miles in my account and there are 4068 miles in my SSA. According to the VS web site I can spend the SSA miles:

Whilst they enjoy the benefits of Silver membership, you will be able to spend miles from their account in order to reach rewards more quickly

That to me means I can combine the miles in both accounts to spend on reward flights?

Having just spoken to Premier they wont let me do this as they tell me I dont have enough miles and can't combine the miles in both accounts. The only thing they said I can do is buy another 4000 miles.

I've got the fares on hold until Tuesday, but dont see why I should have to spend £75 to buy another 4000 miles.

Can anyone confirm this for me?

Regards

The person you spoke to was absolutely incorrect James.

Call back, see if you get through to someone who knows how things actually work ;)

Not had a chance to phone back yet but I've double and triple checked the T&C's:

2.17
b) Members enrolled into a SSA will be afforded exactly the same rights as a standard Flying Club Silver member, as laid out in the Flying Club Terms & Conditions, except that, in addition, the Gold member may spend miles from the SSA to pay for a reward, either in part or in full. The Gold member may use miles from their own personal account and the SSA for the same reward, although rewards booked by the gold member using miles from the SSA may only be booked via the Flying Club helpline.Where applicable any Gold member who has an authorised account user noted in their account, this user will also be entitled to spend the miles from the SSA account. Gold members cannot book rewards using miles from the SSA at any airport.

The second call to Premier was much more successful and I've now managed to book my reward flight.

OMG - only 180 miles left in my account now [:0]

Nice new fancy looking colour e-ticket even arrived in my inbox in under 2 mins as well [y]

Great to hear Premier have lived up to expecations yet again[y][y]

The Buns household now has over 500K (thanks to the Virgin Amex Card), but the need for Tier points at the moment precludes making use[:(!]

Not really buns,

50% success rate, given that it was the second call in to them. You'd hope they'd be hitting 100% for every call...!

Sarah

The LHR-HKG legs wern't too bad, it was the HKG-SYD which where not good in Y.

I will, however, remember to pack my own food this time (crisps/snacks etc), as there's 1 meal service not long after take off, then another 90 mins or so before landing with nothing at all to eat for the 10 hrs in between.
