New! Earn Flying Club miles with Marriott Rewards

Flying Club miles can now be earned whenever you stay with Marriott and Rennaissance Hotels and Resorts and other smaller chains. Previously I credited all my Rennaissance stays to my Qantas Frequent Flyer account so this is good news for me. Always hoped Marriott would become a Flying Club partner one day!
Apply for the Marriott Rewards Visa card (for UK residents) if you haven't done so already and receive 10,000 MR bonus points which can then be converted into 2000 Flying Club miles - not brillant but, hey, can't complain! Slightly better MR->FC conversion rates when you convert more MR points.

That is great news, thanks Strawb [y]
It would have been better if they had announced it a few weeks ago, I have just redeemed 80K points in DC and Chicago. [:I]

This is good news, have quite a number of MR points built up and stay with them fairly regularly as our Chairman has some link to them and we are told to use them whenever possible[y]

Hope you do not plan to go to a baseball game in DC. RFK stadium sucks. Come next year when the new one opens.

No, Ben. I already burnt the points in DC. I will probably try to pull in the Whitesox or the Cubs in a couple of weeks though. Both are at home while we are in Chicago.

I tried this morning to change my Marriott earning preference to my Flying Club Account online, but it wouldn't let me change.
It kept coming up with an error message that my Flying Club account number was invalid.
If anyone manages to change their preference, please let me know the secret.

Next stop is their horrible call centre, and I don't really want to do that. [n]

Tried to use my FC card at the Renaissance at LHR yesterday afternoon and the receptionist said it would not work - then upon checking his sysyem he said that the Virgin Flying Club was not listed in his system as a partner.
Maybe the reality hasnt kept pace with the marketing?

I think that is probably a good point. We know from our experience with VS that marketing often announce things before the right systems are in place.
I will leave it a few days and try again.

I called Marriott today to make a reservation and at the same time informed them that my Flying Club number was not registering on the website. Anyway the agent changed my number without any problem and it's now been updated in my MR profile. Still not sure if you can enter your number online at present though.

Does the conversion to VS work out roughly the same as to BA (now they've stopped the special transfer via tesco points) I've got about 200,000 MR and can't make my mind up now if to change them to BA or VS any suggestions?

Depends if you have, or are close to earning, an Amex 2-4-1 voucher with the BA Amex credit card. If so, the BA miles will go much further. Otherwise, consider where you want to go and what class you will be flying.
Then consider all the other benefits like clubhouses etc.. Most people round here would probably say go VS

The online account editor will still not accept a FC membership number no matter how you write it in.
I spoke with Marriot Rewards direct and they said there was an "error in the sytem" - no sh*t!!
They changed it manually however

I think it's often better value to use the MR for Hotel stays than convert them to Flying Club miles. In the same way that using Virgin Miles for UC is better value than redeeming them for Economy trips.
