Excess Baggage Options

Myself and fiance are relocating to the US on VS12 to BOS this weekend. It looks like we will be taking 8 cases in total between us which means we are looking at 4 x £60/bag (£240) as we are going economy. I assume the tip here is to check-in early to avoid any problems. At least with the US it is per piece as oppose to per kg.

Are there any other cheaper options to consider (e.g. Unaccompanied Baggage Service) instead of taking it with us as excess baggage? I was thinking of negotiating at the check-in desk given our loyalty of using VS over the years!

Thanks!

if either of you are VS gold members, you will get an excess piece.

otherwise, maybe worth speaking th VS cargo to see what their rates are.

Doubt negotiating will work. I checked in the night before and still got stung by VS on my last Y trip with them- we had two bags out of a possible 8 we were allowed to take. One of the bags was 1.5kg over and I still had to pay excess.....after 6 months of kicking up a fuss I have finally got my money back.

I know it sounds silly but have you thought about someone like Parcel Force or UPS. When I lived in NZ I sent a lot of my gear back to the UK by sea mail- just took out some extra insurance and sent it on its way- it is quite common for people down under to that sort of thing apparently.
