What's the best use of Miles from LGW to UVF ??

A long way off yet, but I want to take the missus to St Lucia next year and wanted to know how we can best use the few miles that we have accumulated.

We only have approx 40k miles each, but I am confused as to what is the most economical way of using them, whether I should buy more etc.

I know I can't book this far ahead, but do using flights for next month as the example, would it be best to buy one flight in PE and then use some miles for a companion flight, or should I uy 2 Economy tickets and use miles to upgrade to PE ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Though I can't answer your specific question - I too find the whole business confusing, but I'm sure one of the other gurus can help - I wouldn't go for buying any more miles to get you to UCS (assuming that's what you mean). Assuming you can allocate yourself a space in the bubble, PE is a grand way to travel to the carribean.

One small point is that if you buy two upgradeable Economy tickets you'll earn 8456 miles on the paid for portion of each ticket rather than 12684 miles for a single PE (though I presume for the former you and your partner would have to buy the tickets separately - ISTBC on this though.). Also, you can't upgrade with miles if you book through VH.

Thanks for the reply. I found out to my cost last year that you can't use miles with VH.

I think the best option is going to be to use the Miles plus money option to buy 2 PE tickets, but if anyone can offer any further advice I would appreciate it.

Its worth checking the cost between MpM and normal revenue tickets. You wont earn tier point or miles with MpM, and sometimes its not much cheaper than buying a full ticket - all depends on the time of year. If miles and tier points are of no interest to you, then MpM is a good way of using the miles you have collected though.

If you both have 40k miles each, you could book an upgradeable Economy fight (Y, B, L fare classes) and upgrade to PE on the way out (10k miles each) and UC on the way back (30k miles each). Thats certainly good value for your miles, although you'd need to check reward availability as its not always easy to get reward Upper seats on the LGW flights as there are only 14 suites.
