Big doh! here. I just realised that I didn't receive miles nor tier points for a flight I took on the 8th of November last year. It's very annoying because I did receive miles and points for the return sectors which of course are attached to the same booking. It was an LHR to SYD trip so double dipping missed. Twice as bad.

Has anyone ever tried to beg Virgin to forgive this timing error and been granted their missing mileage and points? I think the missing miles claim limit should be increased to 12 months. 6 months is too short for stupid people like me.[B)]

I should note though that the bookings were originally made in N class but via Virgin Mates. Does anyone know if the fact that it was a Mates booking somehow cancelled out the ability to earn miles and points? I had expected it to earn because N still qualifies. I really will be annoyed because the price difference was only £20 between the Mates and web site prices at that time. The only reason I went with the Mates is because I stood a greater chance of an operational upgrade.

If your Flying Club number was on the booking at the time you travelled, you should have received the miles, even on N fares.

When I booked one of those 'Freddy Fares' to SYD last year, that was booked in N and my miles/TP's hit my account within 3 days of travelling.

Although as you mentioned this was a 'Virgin Mates' fare - that could be why. I dont know how these work sorry so am not able to say if these fares allow Flying Club miles to be earned or not. My gut feeling would be a no though.

All I can suggest you do is contact Flying Club and explain the situation to them.

I agree with James, I have never had a problem with miles / TPs for N fares, since it became an earning class. I have no experience with Mates fares. I though suspect that whatever advice you get here about either matter, the ultimate arbiters are going to be the FC.

A call to them MAY help, but even if someone had been successful in the past, it doesnÕt necessarily set a precedent unfortunately.

Mates fares in qualifying classes will earn miles and points. This began from April 2006. I now have had success in fixing this problem thanks to a Virgin angel.

I still can't work out what went wrong. I know I definitely presented my FC card at the bag drop. I was naive enough to think it would add to my chances of an operational upgrade. I can only assume that it was a computer glitch of some kind.

I really wish I'd known everything I know now thanks to this site. It's been invaluable. I'm much sharper now and won't make the same mistake again.

Thanks all!

This is a long shot, but have you tried the Claim Missing Miles section on the VS website?

You will need to log into your Flying Club account first.

Yeah that's what prompted me to ask in here before calling Virgin as I didn't want to embarrass myself. Not that I should be embarrassed. I'm just funny that way.[:I]

The web site would have been great back at the beginning of April, but it smartly caught me out now 7 months post-flight and couldn't help.

I'm just lucky that Virgin has amazing customer service. Thankfully they're not like the Police in the sense that they don't say ignorance of the law is no excuse. I would love to work for the company but I don't think they have a role that would allow me to offer my best capabilities.
