Thanks again for your recent help with a possible upgrade question.

However I have now had to cancel this trip due to ill health of a close relative.

I have phoned Virgin and explained the situation who have agreed a refund of both points, taxes and my W class fare.

The points (75%) were back in my flying club account almost before I put the phone down. However I was informed that the actual money refund could take 6-8 weeks?

Is this normal and does anyone have any experiences they can share? 6-8 weeks is a long time considering that when I purchased the tickets, I paid instantly.

Thanks

Hi jpcox1,

Sorry to hear of the circumstances, but unfortunately this is both a common (and frequent) complaint of VS. It can indeed (and often does) take up to 2 months for refunds to be processed.

Ridiculous, I agree, but it seems to be the standard that Virgin insist on working to.

To be fair, it's not just Virgin. I had to cancel two BA Miles tickets, and got the miles refund straight away, and was still chasing the tax refund well over two months later.

Hi

I recently cancelled (and rebooked) VS tickets and it took 6 weeks to get the refund, whereas they take payment within days. Doesn't seem right especially as the refund what around £1600 but that's life I guess [ii].

I did send an email to chase it up after about 4 weeks, but not sure if this made any difference.

Good luck !

Of course, the interest that is earned is huge! Coupled with the fact that most people don't know that they can claim the taxes back...

Thanks,
Richard
