Got this link from Flyertalk.

Officials from Dallas International Airport are about to "make a major announcement on new international service."

The announcement is being made in the UK, so I assume it will be a UK based airline. BMI board on FT is speculating it may be VS.

The South Central area of the US seems ill served by VS, but with Virgin America on the horizon, is now the right time for VS to announce a new route to the USA?

Thoughts anyone?

You beat me to it!!!! I just saw the same thing on a.net.

Personally I think this is suicide for VS and would be shocked if it happened. Can you imagine VS going up against AA and BA on this route. DFW is AA's biggest hub and LHR is clearly BA's. VS just would not have the connecting flights to be able to compete. Whilst VX may be able to provide some feed there is nothing to say that VX will serve DFW. The only way it could work is if VS has managed to get a big contract up the front of the plane.

If a new route to America is needed then I would see SEA being much more likley with its limited European flights.

More likely it will be announcement by AA to move services to LHR or open up other European airports.

Just to play devils advocate because I happen to agree with you...VS already fly into ORD which is a major AA and UA hub and MIA which is another major AA hub.

I would be surprised to see VS make this move as their fleet look pretty stretched right now and you would have to do this daily to stand any sort of a chance, could they be dropping a route ?

Well, Nick, if they do decide to fly into DFW that will give them another major US hub airport, one that is currently AA's "home" airport.

Or maybe the announcement will be about the new "all biz class" product?

See this link and I feel sure I heard Emirates were expanding in the US, adding at least SFO and one other place.

I've been watching this one with curiosity too on a.net (im flykev btw)
Id love for it to be VS to DFW, as i could see myself using that in the future.
Remember, in the article, the announcement is being made from London, so its most likely going to be a UK carrier.

OT for a sec..I just saw the TR you did on there..when you mentioned the ducks jersey a little light bulb went off ...yes you should of taken the bump..silly boy, have you not learned anything on here.

Could be EK, guess we will find out in 27 hrs..I just somehow highly doubt it will be VS.

See when I first saw the post my immediate thought was that it was some airline starting flights to Australia from Dallas, but since the annoucement is being made from the UK I guess that guess doesn't work. The annoucement is being touted as a major new service so it seems unlikely that it is AA or BA and frankly even VS, because LHR is already served from Dallas. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I just spoke to someone in the office and they more or less said its not VS

Doubt it as they have announced IAH-DXB non stop starting later in the year. And are currently routing all DXB-America one stop flights through Hamburg.

Not what I would call a major announcement, but each to their own. [8D]:D[:w]

What a pointless lead up to a lame annoucement. Not only because it's BA but also because it's not really that big of a difference.

But it got me thinking (always dangerous) for once we were actually looking outside the box when it came to VS and possible routes, there is nothing glamorous or fun about DFW, trust me, I have spent enough time at the god forsaken airport.

With the coming of the 787's VS has a chance to do something different.

Of course they won't because Steve can't find his nose,but if anyone in Crawley is reading this please take note.

STL If there is ever going to be an airport in the middle of the US that could take VS and make it work it is STL.

TWA used to fly 742's into LGW full everyday, as they went through their melt down they cut costs and went to 763's...full every day, there is a huge O & D market in STL for direct London flights, certainly more than enough to fill a 787.

I don't know how many people on here know the history of TWA and STL, the city not the airport.The city loved them, they hate AA, mostly because of what they did to TWA when they bought and liquidated them and because AA stopped the direct international services meaning that if you want to go anywhere you have to fly to DFW or ORD.

So come on VS step up.

Interesting idea; it's not really close to any other major hub in the United States and allows for a big radius of potential customers. It's also lacking any transatlantic flights but has plenty of domestic connections. If VS were to use AA's lounge I'm sure there would be no complaints either as it's supposed to be top notch.

STL is the 3rd largest government hub in the US, if I remember correctly a number of large accounting firms are based there and along with that the area has a nice size population and zero direct flights...thanks AA

Also as a note..if marketed the right way you would get people just to flip the bird at AA.

TWA is one thing, but VS another. TWA had a major presence at STL and would naturally be most people's first choice in the area. VS is probably not that well known in the area and I wouldn't have thought the route could rely on pax originating in the UK. Having said that, the only direct trans-con with the right marketing...[:?]
